Watching a train heading through a snowy landscape for over 2 hours how unbearable boring could that be? NOT a moment! Never would’ve expected to be fascinated by this - I wish it would have 4 hours traveling time. What an awesome landscape in such incredible professional footage. Chapeau!
That area at 14:30 is so beautiful I wish I had a house there, hearing the train passing by, snow storm closing in at my window in the night and getting warmer near the fire stove. Waking up in the morning, sipping on a hot coffee while preparing to go outside to shovel the snow around the house. Chopping firewood for the rest of the day.
@tigergreg8
4 жыл бұрын
I wonder how many who live there feel that way. Or is it, "There's that damn train again, always waking me up during a good sleep". "Geez, another snow storm. Ugh" Are we out of fire wood again, damn, another day cutting wood, AND i have to shovel that freaking snow" " I probably won't even have enough time to drink a cup of coffee after all of that" 😒😀
@The7Laws-m1c
4 жыл бұрын
@@tigergreg8 I've lived like that back in my country, since I was about 15 years old I waw helping parents and older neighbors chop firewood and shovel the snow. Also carry fallen down wood from the nearby forest. I tell you sometime it did felt like a never ending chore but mostly it felt right, I don't know how to put it, but everything else after a hard day of working the warmth of the stove and home cooked food felt so rewarding you would do everything again just for that moment. But hey, some people are different, this is how I see it and now I wish I was back in those days forever, in a village far from the busy city life.

@@The7Laws-m1c Actually, I can understand how you felt that warmth and camaraderie after a days work and a home cooked meal. Sitting by a warm fire and chatting sounds really quaint to me. I'm not a winter person, though I live on the upper East Coast of the US where we have it. I do enjoy the warmer months and enjoy mowing and trimming the trees and anything else that needs done, and then relaxing in the evening after a hard days work and enjoying how beautiful it looks. I live near a large City, but our family has a getaway home on 55 acres in the country, so my weekends are spent in the country and not here near the City. I have the best of both Worlds now. I do remember going to someones camp in the mountains in the wintertime, and coming in to a fire and sitting on a large wooden rocking chair. The memory of that time is very sweet, so I can somewhat relate to what you yearn for from those days. I will tell you as I've told many people who have great memories. Always always be grateful you had the opportunity to experience those beautiful thought and experiences. Not everyone has those kind of memories and would yearn to have them. so, you are fortunate. Plus, many say they wish for the good ol days, yet, they don't realize that at this very moment, and even for yourself, you may be living in the good ol days, because you may look back and think about the times you are experiencing right now. 👍

I've gotten the impression that Brits are in a sort of denial about winter. Although winters are generally less severe in the UK than in the Norwegian highlands, snowfall and freezing temperatures are hardly unheard of. Yet UK architecture and infrastructure have a reputation for beeing unprepared for winter. I guess they kept a stiff, albeit shivering upper lip, and muddled through. In Norway, the stubbornly unprepared were likely to die off.

just watching the line. the thought of charging along and get total blinded by a snow drift. plunging into a black tunnel before the screen has cleared. then the snow covering the head lights. something you must get used to. sitting watching a screen in a warm house with no respectability is easy . Having the controls in your hand and a long train full of people is defiantly different. Doing this in a whiteout is different, demanding and tough. Doing the same at night when many of the location markers disappear must be a thing where training and experience is paramount. Thanks for doing this as It is so good. Amacf

+Pete Rice Norwegians love their cabins :) Finse which is the highest situated station on the bergen line is 4009ft (1222m) above sea level. This used to be a very active community. It was a way of life. Now Finse attracts people who wants survival training, skiers and kiters. The winters there can be very treacherous.

Thank you for the information. I was wondering what people did there, especially in the winter. Even in the summer it seems pretty bleak. Love your videos...you make an effort to provide us with tidbits such as elevation, signage meanings, etc.

WOW! This was truly amazing, watched the entire journey in one hit! I have never seen snow in person, it looks so beautiful and the scenery, simply amazing. Love the little houses here and there & I imagine the the people inside, reading a book or just looking out the windows with a cosy fire burning. Would love to live somewhere like that, it looks peaceful. Thank you for posting! 🤗🤗

Thanx for amazing upload. I just finished a 2 hour long walk on my walking machine in 34C heat. This video didn’t only keep me cool, but also put me in trance, so I walked and walked with no concept of time. I have never walked this long time. Not only was it good physically, but my mind got it’s fair share of wellbeing as well. Wow, I feel good now, relaxing with an ice cold beer😎. Important to rehydrate 😁 This kind of vids will be my partner on my walking sessions. I can recommend this.

Really cool, love the scenery. It's somewhat hypnotic and put me to sleep once - not because it's boring, though. The speed that the train goes through the curves in the climb up to the highlands is remarkable. I've seen a lot of people who would be going slower than that in a car on a road that twisty. In the snow, definitely. Cool video!

If cars ran on rails they could go faster ;-)) an idea for the future perhaps for electric cars, no electronics needed, buffers front and back, a bit like inline dodgem cars, what fun !! How would you exit the line??

Did this ride in Jan 1967. It was an experience when our knowledge wasn't as extensive to leave Bergen wet a slushy in our shoes and an anorak and climb into temperatures of just on minus 20 with snowflakes inside the triple glazing on the train then getting off at Ornegerget 32.51 blink and you miss it, just snow and the railing, for the youth hostel below. The train did not stop, moving at a crawl through this unstaffed halt to avoid a stall. Bags and passengers jumped out onto the snow then a clamber down a pretty steep slippery slope. Bags went separately on a powered cable basket down to the youth hostel which was welcoming and warm.

Amazing video - love the 60fps, no music, no talking over the video! For foreigners like us would it be good to include station names (small text so it doesnt wreck the video) as the train goes through the stations/tunnels/route features? It'd be easier for us to look up :D.

If you loved this, perhaps you'll also love the Genova-Ventimiglia line, especially the section between Finale Ligure and Andora where the line runs right next to the sea! If you are in the train when there's a sea storm, it looks like you are travelling on a boat but the boat is perfectly stable :D Sadly they're tearing it down and replacing it with a tunnel inland (thankfully the aforementioned section is here to stay because Albenga's inhabitants don't want to walk 7 km to catch their train after they will move the station inland). But on KZitem you can find cabrides from all sorts of eras, even this one from the 1950s: kzitem.info/news/bejne/xaeA1XVtjaKqlZw
