I would pay $150 all day for software like this. Most CAD NURBS modeling programs cost in the thousands of dollars or have terrible monthly or yearly licenses. This guy is doing awesome work by creating this software, he deserves to be compensated for it.

I have to disagree with your comment about moving to the new kernel. Having to make a one time payment of $150.00 is a very small price to pay for a tool that is as useful as you describe. The fact that you are dedicating a ton of your own time to create content for this software says a lot about how much you like it. I've been using it for a short time and really do like it. I wouldn't hesitate to drop $150.00 for it given it's usefulness.

I'm really excited for this series! Nick does great quick update video's but they are hard to learn from. I really like Fusion360 but the games they play with the license is scary, all the work we do to learn a program knowing it could be taken away at any time is frustrating. $25 is great, $150 is tough but if it's great and one time purchase I'd be down for that.

@@bestboy007 MoI3D has a great blend of features that suit the style of modelling I find intuitive, combined with a sleek, responsive interface and a remarkably small footprint that can even run off a USB stick. The permanent licence constraints have stayed the same for 10+ years. Fortunately we all have a wide range to choose from, not just one company trying to dominate a sector. This is why I look forward to Jonathan's videos on Plasticity as much as his Blender ones, another package that is great, but isn't part of my creative workflow either.

Free software is great'n'all but I don't mind paying for useful software. For a one-time fee of $25 Plasticity would be a no-brainer. At $150, though, I have to stop and wonder if I would actually use it enough to justify the price. I'm only dabbling in 3D modelling to feed some of my other habits in 3D printing and machining, so it's competing with a lot of other things for time and money - none of which I could charge for to recuperate costs.

I think it's a shame if the Plasticity won't be open-source and maybe even implemented in Blender as a NURBS modeling mode. It's better to try and get a Fundme program or some sort of fund rasing for Nick's project. Otherwise he risks the future where one day there will be an open-source NURBS modeling and everyone will try to get it to be the best version of NURBS modeling.

Isn't the functionality of C3D already within Blender or some other open source project? I have been burned probably a dozen of times over the last two decades where something wasn't open source and the company shut down, moved to a subscription based model, scrapped the support for the OS I was using at the time, etc. etc. etc. Open Source is often painful in itself but at least it never is a complete loss of investment (time and money), especially if it is good and popular. I am leading one open source project myself and contribute to many others. It still is the best way to go forward and I am never compromising again. As for the uncertain licensing deal with C3D, going to another closed source option is not the way to go. Maybe Nick explored every other option with no success? Maybe he should ask C3D for a full source license, so at least he owns the kernel (although he cannot make it open source and fix the bugs on his end). In the meantime I would look for open source replacements for the C3D kernel.
