I've been looking for this song for YEARS. I loved it in these Cadillac TV ads a few years back. Thanks a million for this upload.

The Breakthrough ad campaign was when Gary Sinise (Mac Taylor from CSI: NY) was Cadillac's voicever. Other voiceovers for the brand after him include Aaron Paul (Jesse Pinkman from Breaking Bad) and Regina King (Lydia Adams from SouthLand)

I like to watch this commercial about 35 or 40 times, then put my original Led Zeppelin 8-track in my 1970 Eldorado's player, go hit the on-ramp to I-75 southbound and open up the quadrajet. Cadillac style!

Yes Between these last two decades, Cadillac has made some of the best cars out there! And I also very much agree with some of the best body styles with the Eldorado, Seville, Deville, XLR, STS, DTS and the line of Escalade trucks. I really miss these older years being around these great Cadillac's. I work at a Cadillac dealer myself and its just not the same anymore which is sad to me.

AMCNorthstar 93 It is quite disappointing indeed. I just saw an XLR on the road the other day and it looked like it could be a brand new model. Some time around 2010, they fell into doing these tacky designs that look dated before they're even released; it's like they're going backwards or something to make up for how exhausted they became by two decades of modern and forward-thinking designs. Don't even get me started on the pathetic new wreath-less insignia - it looks like they pulled that straight out of the 1970s.

***** Oh I know. The last car that is my favorite of the newest Cadillac's was the DTS that ended in 2011. Between the couple Cadillac dealers in my area, the older Deville's and DTS cars of the 2000's are still in high demand and even more popular than some of the newest Cadillac's by current Cadillac owners. I myself also saw an 04 XLR that just came in to be serviced by a customer just two days ago. Those cars really do look like a brand new model. They were a specialty car from Cadillac with a limited number made very much similar to the Allante if you may remember back from 1987 to 1993. And yes the new Cadillac insignia is actaully the way the Cadillac emblem use to be back during the 50's and 60's. What is being let out would be the "V" or the wreath on certain models and years.

I hadn't seen this commercial since 2003!! It was great showing both the Classic Cadillac of 1954 with the newest styled Cadillac's for the 2003 model year. These were some of Cadillac's and GM's best years before it went downhill. I work at a Cadillac dealer and its just not the same anymore.

liminalexpression Well I don't remember exactly when so I said 2003 because that's when the new CTS came out from the previous Catera for 2002. Cadillac was just starting to come out with the new look on different models each consecutive year for the 2000's era.

I liked that ad from Cadillac loved it more that they used Rock N Roll from Led Zepplin even though I'm not to pro on when songs are sold out like that. But to be fair and honest Caddy doesnt need ads the car sells itself if you can afford it and want it you get it

That's so sad to hear Zeppelin, and awesome at the same time. Sad because it's like their first step to selling out (but at least they don't show up on Guitar Hero games, or MTV, which would result in immediate sell out) and awesome, because Zeppelin is slowly being forgotten :( But still, that's pretty sweet of them to put a Zep song on :D

Cadillac initially offered $15 millions dollars to THE DOORS to use BREAK ON THROUGH, but John Densmore (Doors Drummer) didn't allow this to happen, so they went with Led Zeppelin instead. Its kinda fucked up that the commercial is called BREAKTHROUGH

+lenin ruiz There is no longer any even the remotest argument that says cool rebellious artistic integrity still exists as any sort of separate and distinct category from crass commercial whoredom. Not that it ever really did, I realize, but it was a splendid delusion, wasn't it? Especially in music, especially in _rock_ music.
@andrewfurst5711

I'd read that also, that Densmore was the holdout. If the $15 million is accurate, what a fool he was. He might have gotten a million or more himself. And the song might have raised awareness of The Doors among people unfamiliar with them, rather than being seen as sell-outs. Does anyone think any less of "Rock & Roll" having had as part of in this commercial? I wonder what Densmore thought when this commercial arrived on his tv set, assuming he had a tv set at that time.

Cadillac ruled the post WWII US luxury market through the 1970's. Then they had some missteps in the 80's and 90's (Cimarron, V8-6-4 engine, Catera), and brands like Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, and BMW surpassed them in the view of the public. So while not all Cadillacs of the 80's and 90's sucked, this commercial intended to remind the public of Cadillac's glory days and tried to tell people that they'd updated their products and their image. Did it work? Not entirely, but it's still a great commercial.
