Cadillac Mountain is a must do when visiting Acadia National Park near Bar Harbor, Maine. This mountain is the highest mountain on the eastern seaboard, and the tallest mountain in Acadia National Park. This is also the location in the country where the first rays of the sun strike the United States of America. A great spot for both sunrise and sunset, this 1500+ foot high mountain, is the only mountain in the park where you can drive to the summit. It offers panoramic views of the park, along an easy trail that can be hiked near the summit. You will see views of the Atlantic Ocean, Bar Harbor, Bar Island, Schoodic Peninsula and other areas in and around Acadia. The Bass Harbor Headlight, is a popular lighthouse in Acadia National Park for viewing sunsets. This 35 foot tall lighthouse is located on the quiet side of the island, and offers beautiful waterfront views. For those who are a little more daring, there is also a trail at the end of the parking lot, near the restrooms, that leads down to a waterside rock scramble. Here you can capture a unique view of the lighthouse and find the most popular spot for witnessing a sunset. Parking is limited at this location so if you are going to view a sunset, arrive early.
