I have a hard time watching now as my mother has Alzheimer's. She has no idea what state I live in and sometimes doesn't recognize me. At dinner a year ago, she was telling someone a story about me and halfway through started directing it to me, because she firgit who I was. Then add the spread of COVID, and I can barely deal with it.

Have any of you watched any of the 5 original films from the late-'60s/'70s? Having grown up with them (each with varying degrees of quality), this 3-film reboot of the story was a revelation. It's so cool if you have that original base to draw on when watching this 3-film reboot. These newer films are excellent on their own as well (as you're finding out), but this is ENTIRELY different than the way the original series started.

There are tons of call backs in the movie. I would have to watch the whole movie again but CESARS mom was named BRIGHT EYES. That was the name the female doctor ZIRA cave CHARLTON Heston in the original movie. Dr. ZIRA and Cornelius were the parents of CESAR I. The original movies from the 70’s. I am glad you noticed the trip to mars in the news because that is also a callback to the original movies. I am sure I will think of some more but I really enjoyed this reaction because these movies are very different than most movies out there.

Caesar yelling "NOOO!" is one of the most electric moments in cinema for me. I love this series and it's so moving and exciting to me. Also -- I love the little subtle detail that Franco's character looks visibly sick, pale, and sweaty in the final scenes -- he is already sick. It was funny seeing you guys say it wasn't a happy ending, because I was rooting for Ceasar the whole time and my anxiety was on his and the escapees' behalf! They truly deserved freedom especially once they gained equivalent intelligence and could feel their own suffering and enslavement even more acutely than they already did as "mere animals". A lot of innocent humans are going to die from the virus but if they were going to be wiped out anyway I'm glad the apes get their turn instead of being gunned down through one of humankind's last acts :P

🙊 I cried so many times watching this movie, starting right at the beginning when they captured Caesar's mom in the wild, then experimented on her, and finally killed her. Also ❤ Caesar with his human family relationship then as a leader of the apes! 👍 This is the best in the series, imho. 🤔 But guys, I don't understand why you kept saying "animals are ok when they're small but when they get to a certain age, they change... become aggressive..." so, watch out! If you replace the word "animals" for "humans", it's the same thing. Don't also grow up to be violent, self-entitled, egotistical, murderous destroyers of most living things? Quite frankly, we're worst than any "animals" 🙄
