Seeing the ones who pluck all their feathers breaks my heart. Thank you for giving these sweeties the love and attention they deserve!

I foster parrots and it's currently my first time looking after a caique. His previous owner gave him up because of "behavioural issues" (Who does that to a parrot???) but watching this video absolutely confirmed my ideas that the reason for his 'behaviour' is, in fact, that he is a caique. I love him to pieces already but I'm very excited to help him find a forever home.

Caiques are definitely unique in finding homes for - more than half of our flock are here due to previous aggressive behavior, it's just a trait of caiques. Sadly, most caiques with behavior issues, and many that are just being wild parrots, get bounced from home to home to home - constantly being rehomed again and again 🥺 I truly wish that we had more room, and that I had more time in my day....so many out there need someone who understands, and will work with them instead of rehoming them❤️

@@ProvidenceMeadow Of course! I wish that could be me, but I normally specialise in looking after birds with special needs which not many safehouses do. The caique I've been trusted with has breathing issues from a lung infection that a previous owner left untreated for example. I wish I could keep every unhealthy bird I've ever had to help but I simply just don't have enough room. BirdlineUK - the organisation I safehouse for - is absolutely dedicated to finding the ideal homes for every bird they're given and I'm privileged to give them a safe place to recover from whatever their previous homes put them through until they find their forever homes. Hopefully with BirdlineUK's help, he'll find a forever home that will look after him as well as you look after your lovely flock.

I've only got the one Caique almost 4 years old that's plucked exactly the same area as your bird. Did you find out why they did it and has he/she got their feathers back?

Pogo is a stress / habitual plucker; Nigel and Ricky are seasonal pluckers (hormonal) All of our birds have been seen by our avian veterinarian and have been deemed healthy. The simple fact is that there simply isn't a way for a parrot in captivity to have the same life and activities as a parrot in the wild - and this often leads to boredom and stress. Of course, we do everything that we can to prevent this.
