She does not create chaos on the side, keeps her head in the game, and has more talent than the next 3 players altogether. Anyone who disagrees is a racist non-binary anti-religious bigot. The players in the league cannot handle a clean-cut conservative straight white christian. It goes against their demonic rituals. With that said, I wish all the new players luck and hope they grow the sport together. They need to dust out the bins and get rid of the bigoted dinosaurs still in the league. Start hiring family friendly coaches to attract heterosexuals to watch. Taurasi was right about reality. She needs to realize that she is too old and too crude to be a representative of the sport. Cathy Engelbert gave a uber-political response. She listed a big basket of reasons for the WNBA’s resurgence in popularity 2024 instead of going right to the core reason: Kaitln Clark, the golden goose. Without that goose, the league would revert to the pre-Clark futility that spotlighted Griner, whom she wrongly says is a star, and the rest who failed to elevate the league’s popularity. Only later with the host’s prodding did Engelbert speak, albeit unenthusiastically, about CC’s astounding contribution.

This is by far the most important, crucial time in WNBA history, and how management handles it will dictate the future of the league. As great and pivotal CC is, if they rely on her alone it will be a huge mistake. The only way to "sustain" the CC Effect is to create more rivalries like Magic vs Bird back in the day and spread the attention around. To rely on CC alone and hype her into the ground will only exhaust her and kill the goose with the golden egg. The can use her as the focus, but must give her marketing help. And the league has to expand, because they either grow or die.

To be honest, it is not just that Caitlin is an exceptional player, it is that she is so wholesome. Not tatted up, her sexual preference not being lauded all over the place, and I am gay myself. Most people want good role models for their children, and the WNBA is lacking in that.
@WhoisDJNox

They're in a similar place the NBA was in 1979 when Bird/Magic were drafted. The big catalyst in the 80s, they were both on winning teams and that rivalry continued in multiple championship games. CC and Angel (closest rival) have to win, Win and WIN. You're right, it's not sustainable to solely rely on her. This is def a crucial year, and the following years will be important with Paige Bueckers, Juju Watkins, and more.

@@malebovinemanure Understandable points and I'm not a huge tattoo fan, either, but male sports have their share of unappealing players and still seem to be popular and thrive. Like any league, the WNBA is not going to turn 100% white bread, wholesome, Christian national tomorrow. We have to accept it as it is. And being gay should have nothing to do with anything, something I'm sure you understand being gay yourself. I'm straight and have no problem with gay players. I'd also push back on the WNBA not having good role models. I don't see it having the kind of scandals like in other sports. Just being gay or having tattoos should not be disqualifiers.

WNBA needs to build a pyramid not a Jenga tower. They can't put all their eggs in the Caitlin Clark basket. 1) Caitlin has to transition to the WNBA successfully. It's not a given and even Caitlin knows that. 2) WNBA has to promote other star athletes to solidify the fan base. MJ revived the NBA, but if there weren't other great athletes around, its revival wouldn't have worked. MJ and Larry Bird got smoked by other players many times. Widening the spotlight on many players helps build the fanbase. 3) They have to ramp up the rivalries between teams if not players. Doesn't have to be in a nasty way. 4) They need to ramp up the excitement by expanding teams and the season. I'm not saying they should ignore CC, she provided the initial spark. However, they need to smear out the attention.

One reason why some of the WNBA players are not getting the endorsements could be their mouth and actions even off the court. Clark would be the example more less the golden goose she is being branded. She should have been embraced by the players of the WNBA, along with the other players from college to pro. For Clark that did not happen with the so-called stars rapping about her getting this treatment and those endorsements. Companies are not blind seeing this. Who would they want to be a spokesperson for them. Clark being the player fans love for how her personality shows or the WNBA players whining and cause hate. These women, along with the men, going from college to pro never really working a job getting whatever for their playing in sports then start thinking they know something does not resonate with some or most of the country.
