Badass how alameda county and cal fire respond together, here in tulare county our battalion chief always request cal fire because it keeps them busy, and because they are a fucking great help, if we respond even to a medical aid cal fire is there and we appreciate them.

Its kind of an odd station. The Station is CAL FIRE's Sunol station. As the story goes, Alameda County wanted a station in the area but there really isn't anywhere to build one. Putting two different fire departments in one house would be problematic at best so it was decided to staff the AlCo engine with CAL FIRE personal. Thus, Engine 14 is punched out by AlCo and 1684 is punched out by CAL FIRE. What I've been told happens behind the scenes is that AlCO punches out E14 and the Capt asked the CAL FIRE Capt if they want to come along. CAL FIRE usually does as "auto-aide". All in all it works out really well.

Actually no. Cal Fire 1600 is the Santa Clara Unit which covers five counties (Santa Clara, Alameda, Contra Costa and parts of Stanislaus and San Joaquin). This was taken at our Sunol station which is a bit odd because it is actually two stations in one. It is Cal Fire Sunol station and Al Co. station 14. It was merged like this because Al Co needed a station in the Niles Canyon area, but, there really is no place to build a station. So they cut a deal with Cal Fire to run one of their engines out of the Sunol station. To keep things simple, even though it is an Al Co engine, Cal Fire personnel staff it.

@@lyonai6f "Morgan Hill" is the identifier for the Emergency Communications Center for the Santa Clara Unit (1600) of Cal Fire (California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection). It looks like mike smith is identifying the Cal Fire units by the name of their ECC's. "Felton" is the identifier for the San Mateo-Santa Cruz Unit (1700) ECC. Sunol Station is on Pleasanton-Sunol Road with a Pleasanton mailing address. I seem to get it and the Sunshine Station on the north side of Mt. Diablo. I've been to Sunshine, but not to Sunol. I lived in a small town in the eastern Sierra and could pick up some of the Santa Clara Unit's repeaters on a scanner I had at home. It was a weird path and I could also pick up KWAV 96.9 FM from Monterey in full stereo!

@@wannabetowasabe Yeah. Most of the time we just use the designator SCU, CZU, MMU, etc. I'm still trying to figure out how they got away with the Fresno King Unit FKU.

Thanks. Most of the time I just walk out of the station and Stan out of the way thus never giving it much thought. Where would you suggest I stand? I'll give it a try and see how the video comes out. 😀

Lyon AI6F if I can suggest standing at the end of the apron and or closer to the road to get a good shot of them coming towards you and passing you. I understand sometimes they move fast but most of the time waking to the end of the apron you’ll have plenty of time. I know my friends and I used to run across the street if we were in the station when they got a call.

Heh, that's what I was thinking. The other day our Dozer got punched out and I went to the end of the apron for the shot. What I found was an MVA that just happened and I started working that until the engine got there which caused me to miss the Dozer. I'll try for better locations in the future 😉

Cal fire best fire deparment in the US. Cal fire is the only deparment with an air force. To me LA county is second, la city fire 3rd chicago or south metro next. New york city fire is good but they were doing brush fires with tillers and they have no experience in wildland.

Maybe, I haven't been on an engine in a long time so it is not my place to say. One thing is how the station is set up. It looks like one station but it is really two stations that are dispatched from two different dispatch centers. The call was for the Alameda (AlCo) engine, but sometimes the Cal Fire (State) engine will be asked to help out. This all goes on at the time of call between the two engine captains which means the Cal Fire guys are a bit behind the curve so to speak time wise. It's a two way street as the AlCo engine will also go out on Cal Fire calls in the same manner if the captains or the chief stationed there feels there is a need.

Lyon AI6F and probably they were only assisting the city fire deparment, or another county unit that was already at the scene, in california we have fire stations at every corner 😂😂. From cal fire, county fire deps, city fire depts, us forest service, bareau of land management, california conservation corps, cal oes, even LA co fd came so assist in a wild fire in tulare county which is 4 hrs away 😂
