A throwback player. A player from the early 20th century playing in current times. A man who stayed loyal to one team, grew up just miles from the stadium, played for the local team his whole career no matter what, played simply for the love of the game and the team. Showed up every day to play despite aches and pains. Played the most demanding position other than catcher. Gave his heart and soul to one team and one game. A true legend, a true iron man. Gehrig would be proud. This record will never be broken. No matter your team, if you love baseball, then you were extraordinarily lucky to have watched him. I can’t cay enough about this man. As a lover of baseball, I was fortunate to be able to see Cal on the field. You just cannot find guys like this anymore.

Thank you for this. CRJ and baseball was my life as a kid. I was fortunate enough my father took me to 2,130. An amazing time in Baseball, it's never felt the same since.

That’s awesome. To have been in OPACY for 2130 must have been unreal. Cal did so much for the Orioles AND for the city. He is a true legend of the game and a Baltimore guy, symbolizing the hard working blue collar city perfectly. I love that he put so much time and money into youth sports in the greater Baltimore area too. What a legend.

When I was 14 and 15 I went to cal ripken sr baseball camp in the summer and cal sr was actually there everyday coaching, pitching bp, actually work on sliding with a few of us. When my parents came to pick me up after the week he met with my parents and I for like 10 minutes before we left. Stand up guy. Crazy thing though was smoking was prohibited but he would be out there coaching puffing away on them non filters.

I watch these prima Donna's today guys like Aaron judge and Mike trout who everyone thinks are so wonderful and already putting them in the hall of fame These cream puffs are on the disabled list every time they get a freakin hangnail and they stack a few big seasons together to make their stats look impressive. Buncha overrated bums in my opinion Then you see a guy like cal . Big strong guy who performed at a high level for years . Played through all kinds of injuries and wasn't looking for hype or publicity or attention He loved the game of baseball and cal ripken is the blueprint for a hall of fame baseball player

Anybody find it odd the ironman played during the steroid era?
@J.C...
Жыл бұрын
No. What are you trying to imply? Why would it be odd that he played during that time? That's how things go when you start playing in 1982. That, means you play during the 80s and the 90s too.

@12savage68 steroids actually increase the chances of injury in the ligaments, which is one of the most common injury in baseball because it's constantly being used. He would more likely get injured if he took steroids

No, he played well before that "era" Cal would have never cheated baseball like that.his character is above reproach, and if you would even think that, you didn't know the man
