Some players, as great as they were in college, just don’t have overall game that translates to greatness in the NBA. Just look at Christian Laettner who was drafted the year before

He was the player seen clowning around with Dick Vitale once in college. I don't remember why. Why the hell is the Star Wars theme playing?

This guy was just a very poor man's version of Rip Hamilton, before there was a RIp Hamilton.

Shoulder. Bailey knee. Guyton knee... The NBA wasn't kind to IU players from Zeke until Gordon. Henderson, who is also super intelligent, had an underrated NBA career especially given his late diagnosed stomach/pancreas problems. Let's not forget that Cheaney played 13 seasons in the league averaging nearly 10 ppg and 3.5 rebounds. A lottery pick who lasts 10+ years in the Association is NOT a bust, especially considering he played on bad teams and in an era where the "3 Guard" was full of talent, especially in the Eastern Conference. Put Calbert on a mid-late 1990s contender like the Pacers, Knicks, Bulls, Heat, Hornets, or Magic in the Eastern Conference and I think we see very different numbers. Calbert's FG % was sometimes Top 10 in the NBA -- very rare for a non-post player. Additionally, he is a great teammate and influence in the locker room -- never had to worry about him doing the right thing. I'd put him just a notch under Grant Hill, less Hill's longevity despite dealing with injury.

Yeah they lost to the Jayc@cks in the elite 8 in 93. They announcers kept reiterating before the game how Kansas had beaten Indiana earlier that season and Bobby Knight had never lost to the same team twice in one season... Calbert Cheaney was a great player back then, But then he got drafted by The Washington Bullets/Wizards

I own a Calbert Chaney rookie card. I wonder how much it's worth.

Anything "Bullets" has some extra value when the NBA banned it. Some cards are being put up as NFTs now, so maybe card trading is back... Of course that MJ rookie card is always going to be tops!
