You get a loan from a bank or credit union and know what the monthly payment is. But now you want to figure out how much of that monthly payment is going to principal and how much is going to interest, so you can make some informed decisions. There a function or actually two different functions that will let you calculate the amount of principal or interest that you're paying in a particular month like the 1st month or the last month of your payments.
