Would definitely love to see a video of all the math in spreadsheet form. I use my own calculator that I created from scratch in Excel, but I had to look everywhere to make sure I had the math correct. It has helped me out quite a bit, but I would like to compare it.

Another reason for having a slightly lower efficiency is the difference between Fine Grind (aka 0.2mm) and Coarse Grind (0.7mm) extract potential values. Guaranteed, all distillers (and brewers) are using coarse grind (0.7mm). Fine grind (0.2mm) involves using all kinds of methods to get every last spec of starch out possible, things that no rational distiller (or brewer) is going to do. If the CG value is on the spec sheet, you should probably use that, but if it isn't there, then just use the FG value and know that yours will actually come out slightly less. Also, the US uses "US customary units" not Imperial units. For example, a US gallon is 3.78L, whereas an Imperial gallon is 4.54L.

Thanks man! Do you log your recipes using brewing software ever? (Not just for the calculators but also for record keeping). I know most brewing software is all beer based, do you know of any software that has an additional distilling section for a recipe?

Hi Jesse, First off,- thank you for your fantastic video"s. I built an all copper moonshine type still over lock down after watching your videos, and started making UJSSM, but now with a combo of smoked corn and barley. ............. I went to Kmart yesterday to get more cork top bulk jar "barrels" for aging my bourbon, but they were sold out. So I had to get the 3L clip-top jars with the orange silicone seal. But I'm worried about chemical leaching from the silicone with the ethanol, I am also in NZ, and I wonder if you could please let me know where you get the white seals you use, and what are they made of? I know you prefer we research ourselves, which I agree with. but i'm hoping to swap these seals out as soon as I can. - Also, the kick ass t-shirt is a winner, i'd get one. Thanks.

Hows it mate. Those are the exact jars I use. Kmart FTW! I keep the seal that comes with them but tripple wrap them in PTFE tape. Grab some from bunnings/mitre 10 and wrap em up :)

I usually do my volume based on gravity but I have to get really smoked out to figure that way 🤣 a easy trick is just pull out your hydrometer and see where the % corresponds with the gravity. Thanks for all the great info!

As a Canadian I know both but despise Imperial measures. I brew completely in metric but do construction work in Imperial. Either way, in a race to brew 200L of rum in 36 hrs or i get evicted. My landlord thinks home distilling is dangerous.

How do you figure out the grain you need for like a 6 gallon
@paulhutchison6994
4 жыл бұрын
At what point does the strike water volume cause the numbers go off kilter. Example being using 50 gallons of water with 100lbs of grains. I've noticed with some calculators using this volume i can't even get close to the right temp once the grains are added. Its either too high or too low.
@adamw2785
4 жыл бұрын
One of the big issues is determining the specific heat capacity of grains. Not an easy value to track down, and it's going to be different to the actual grain in your hand. So most calculators just use a fixed value, typically it will be around 1.59kJ/kg C or 0.379BTU/lb F. So the larger the water volume and grain mass, the more it will deviate from the actual value.
@StillIt
4 жыл бұрын
I mean this calculator dose not do strike water temp at all. But adam is correct about the strike water calc, at least on my website.
