For that last surface area variation computation, there's a lot of dimensional mumbo jumbo wrapped up in the pre-exponential constant if each computation is supposed to yield something in m^2/kg, the inverse of a "surface density" quantity. I know what Leonard is trying to teach, here, and avoids complicating the discussion. Once we get out of a community college classroom, such issues are confronted more squarely. Somebody did analyze a lot of data to come up with the parametrization.
