yes i was on the station fire, and for some reason I started talking about two fires at one, cause I know that those con crew captains died in the early stages of that fire, and on the la brea fire, i was on a crew and we had some pretty good moments down there on the LP. I started fighting fire on a crew for the forest service in 2006, and have done time on engines and crews, mostly crews ever since... And the Rim fire was on my forest this year... so thanks for looking like a really smart guy.

We were there in Sept of that year visiting family. We wanted to go up to Oak Glen but due to the fires it was all closed. I have pics of the smoke in the mountains. Such a horrific tragedy.

You should have gone to school and transferred out after seven years service. Usually it is a risk to stay in a THANKLESS, dangerous job. The thing is to make sure that all your time of service is properly accredited in the Retirement System so you don't have battle them legally to get your retired pay.

i would say any station semi near the coast from oceanside to santa maria.the santa ana winds whip up some BIG flames in the hils down there. or far north california like redding/shasta area and north. its so remote up there that when lightning strikes cause a fire they burn a while before crews can get up there.

I was on the La Brea Fire, and the Station fire that the show in this video, Was on the Station fire when those two guys in a utility fire rig got chased by the fire and drove off the bank rolled the truck and the fire overtook them, never really heard if they died from the accident or the fire... I was worried though cause a couple of the shot crews we were leap frogging earlier in the fire had been put out that way...

The pink stuff is phoschek and is laid down ahead of a fire front in an attempt to halt or slow down the forward progression of the front. CAL FIRE will use their S-2 aircraft (two engines, white with red markings) during initial attack to flank the head of the fire in an attempt to stop it before it becomes large.

The part I find difficult is where firefighters ended up burning in their trucks because they ran out of fuel and water. It was after finding out there was no money to pay their salaries. They ended up lambs on a sacrificial holocaust.

It wasn't that they were too expensive, it was that the super large air frames were untested in the extreme topography they would have to drop in. Once the DC-10's proved themselves again and again this year, the Fed gave Evergreen a "will call" contract that should have started this year but since that 747 was sitting in the desert with the engines removed for storage, Evergreen decided to wait to start the contract till next year.
