You really played both Tyler and Kyle in a way suggestive of them both having meaningful secrets here without being heavy handed.

Thank you. Differentiating characters in the same occupation is always a concern of mine - especially online where options are more limited. We interact with Kyle quite a bit in the sessions still in the editing queue, but fortunately I have not had to play them together in the same scene~

@@Runeslinger In an Alex session, ya I could see it would be hard because from the player's perspective they aren't on the same "side" but, for me as a GM atleast, the bickering buddy cop duo is the easiest npc on npc interaction to RP. If the two of them confronted another party so they appeared to be supposedly unified from the player's perspective it could be an interesting scene. IDK I have trouble keeping a serious tone in play so my opinion here is definitely skewed here

@23bcx Right, the tone is important. We don't want to avoid natural, interpersonal humor between characters in play, but at the same time we don't want to create a bunch of comedic characters. Instead of bickering and banter, these two might politely disagree, or politely agree, but might get heated on the basketball court~

This video is relevant to my recent thoughts relating to COC, and in many aspects, 7th ED specifically. In reading the material (rulebooks, scenarios etc) I feel a push toward the idea that playing COC is much like solving a puzzle box. There is an expectation of play as a means of SOLVING a mystery rather than EXPERIENCING the mysterious, the unknown, and the paranormal.

In some ways yes, but it depends on where you are placing the emphasis. When you read the literature/stories they do vary in how deep in the mythos they go. Some are near the surface but totally mundane, all do have elements of the mythos in them but how deep its influence is felt varies. You could say that my sessions are a slow burn in the direction of EXPERIENCING the mysterious, the unknown, the paranormal and horror (though not cosmic yet).

Right on. You are right on the money. From its inception this series aimed to highlight the idea of play as an experience of the characters and how that impacts atmosphere, investigation, and any resulting reactions - such as horror, or sharply-realized motivations - in those characters and thus, their players~
