Back when basketball was beautiful. Calvin had great ball handling and didn't have to push the defender off even being a little man with the non dribble hand like they do today on every play. He also was a good shooter.

Great stuff, thanks! One of the best “little-men” ever; if you don’t count Isaiah Thomas, Allen Iverson and Chris Paul... Calvin is the GOAT player under 6’, and saying that is still selling him short. He could flat out ball, and was a great overall athlete.

Lived in San Diego when he was drafted by the then SD 🚀 He could run circles around everyone but got very little playing time even though he was instant points. Glad he went on to get more playing time that he richly deserved. One of my favorite shows he put on was dribbling 2 balls at once full speed down the court. Calvin you were simply amazing ❤

5 foot 9 in shoes, martial arts master, and masterful artistry Calvin was the nbas Bruce Lee and would dog in this era and any other era. Even better than Isaiah Thomas at that height. Best player under 6 feet I’ve ever seen

Not saying you're wrong but are you sure he was better than Isiah Thomas? Thomas avg 29 PPG at 5'9" and scored 50+ career high
@rocksolid5260

@@thebayareastandout without a doubt for sure Because scoring 50 in a game before does not put u above someone whom has a lower career high by any means since it’s just an individual scoring performance that plenty of players have that are worse overall players that players whom haven’t and the same exact thing applies to Isaiah’s career high average of 29 ppg which is not only just 3 points more than Murphy high average of 26 ppg but isn’t more impressive at all when you see Murphy did it with no 3 point line which didn’t even exist but 4 of his final years of his career, without wrist carrying being 100% legal which Isaiah does on every dribbling possession he’s ever had in his career just like majority of the rest of the guys in his era, no extra steps allowed, and did it with noticeably higher FG% despite those lack of luxuries Isaiah had But again this isn’t just one season comparison either but overall career wise Murphy proved with much harder rules and no 3 point line to be a better overall defender, much better scorer field goal scorer, slightly better bulk scorer, better post play, better finisher at the rim, better handle, and only a worse rebounder. Isaiah’s lucky I give him the edge in Playmaking since even those rules allow you to count an assist much easier than what was counted as an assist in Murphy era. So yeah Isaiah is Fosho up there among the greatest players below 6 feet but there’s levels between them and anyone else vs Murphy

@@rocksolid5260 I do know that having a higher career high doesn't automatically make a player better and I don't know what Murphy's career high was but I was just saying that to add on to Isaiah's greatness. Murphy probably was better than Isaiah Thomas and I don't know much about him to say he wasn't. Both had coaches play with their minutes and career and not give them consistent minutes even when they were great the season before. I don't think Thomas carried all the time though and don't think a lot of others do but that people have some obsession with calling everything a carry. The NBA refs are ticky tack and petty about the foul calls and technicals so I'm pretty sure if it were carrying they'd call it.

@@thebayareastandout gotcha yes I didn’t get the relevance of that accomplishment point out cuz I was already thinking of Calvin as the overall better player but only mentioned his masterful artistry in the original comment so that’s my bad. @@thebayareastandout to your point about carrying it’s not a debate at all. I have literal endless footage and screenshots of Michael jordan and several others from the 90s-today wrist carrying all game long (not every single possession but many of them) and proof of it getting worse and worse by the decade to this day. Isaiah and everyone else carried in his era from Lebron to cp3 to Westbrook etc… they all caught being allowed to completely turn the ball with their hand cuffed completely under it wrist totally turned and even curry is seen blatantly double dribbling in crucial moment of the 2015 finals where Lebron had him on lock but then he faked out lebron to score by touching the ball with both hands and then dribbling after to score. Countless examples of Isaiah bringing the ball up or driving where he cuffs the ball in his palm facing up under it completely same with jordan as I said u can see plenty of wrist carrying in his comeback game against the pacers just 1 of thousands of examples etc…. Where as west and Murphy era it gets way way harder and way less frequent to find instances of them wrist carrying and not getting called for a turnover for it Bigger than that tho, it was the literal documented rule that u couldn’t wrist carry back in the day where your hand goes to the side or cuffs the ball with your palm underneath and they let up on it massively in the 90s and today it doesn’t exist at all in any capacity whatsoever

Best pure mid range jump shooter of all time. Had a great career, but could have been much better but had several coaches along the way who didn't believe in him and didn't use him properly, cut his minutes, etc. They never really let him play "point" in the traditional sense, had him running too many patterns off the ball. He should have been allowed to control the game, he would have been Iverson before Iverson, no reason he couldn't have averaged 25/game for many years.
