Thank you for showing the pinion gear up close. I couldn't find a mark upon quick inspection. I'll go after it with good lighting tomorrow and see if I can find it. 👍

The short answer is yes. The long answer is when the pinion gear is at 11 o’clock everything should line up perfectly.

Just wanted to say hey thanks you pointed me in the right direction after some further research I found a little stamp in the end of one of the splines on the shaft

Kenny H If it's retarded a tooth, you'll likely get valve to piston contact. The piston chases the exhaust valve closed, and if the valve is that late getting closed, the piston will likely catch it. The other way you’ll lose compression

Where do you set the Pistons at top dead center on the front so that you can put the first gear that runs the oil pump at 11 o’clock?

The video shows you that when all the timing marks are properly lined up the hole in the oil gear faces you

I have a 77 sportster it has no hole at all in the gear for the oil pump but what I’m really wondering is the splines on the primary shaft that turns with the motor all the splines are the same there is no way to tell where the motor is when I put that gear on at 11 o’clock so where should the pistons be so that I can put that gear on at 11 o’clock?
