Ok a couple of things here 1. Don't forget to read the description before continuing and 2. The potential reasons for burning the house down is due to a pest problem that chemical use alone won't fix (eg here in Aus we have major termite issues, in Canada I don't know an equivalent bug) or black mould or other health issue. It could also be that the owner wanted to build a bigger and better home ans what better way to begin is to allow firefighters to practice on your old home instead of just demolishing. Plus its the home owners decision not ours with what they do with the house

@DanknDerpyGamer

Well, that is a big part of it, but house construction does contribute too. For instance, it's no secret that engineered lumber - specifically, the beams made out of wood flakes pressed together with tons of flammable adhesives, burns faster and hotter than timber. Look at all the news reports in recent years about firefighters becoming injured when they step on a floor, unaware that the middle part of the beam burned though - hell, just watch videos where houses built that way go up, and see how much faster it is compared to even this example (not to mention, in said videos, you can often see the radiant heat doing a hell of a job damaging neighboring homes)

Peter P The house has to be prepared for training. You cannot just say it’s for training and burn it down. It has to be certified as asbestos free. In many areas the shingles also have to be removed. If you don’t perform the requirements I can assure you the EPD will let you know.

Doesn't look like very much training going on here. In Texas, the Commission on Environmental Quality would see through this. They even have a Q&A on this: "There must be a specific benefit to the fire department. Simply preventing the spread of fire from an abandoned building to neighboring property is not considered training. Such burns constitute an attempt to circumvent the Outdoor Burning Rule and are prohibited."

While very uncommon, all jurisdictions in Canada and the US allow this. Several criteria have to be met, you just can’t go down to local fire house and say, do you want to burn down a home. As you could see, house was empty of furniture, it was on an isolated location ( ie not in a crowded block of homes and the building was set up to burn (several holes were put in the roof, windows taken out and doors left open to increase the air flow for the fire to consume the whole house). There could have been several reasons for the owners to let the FD practise on this home. There was a second building on the property that they also burnt so god knows where they wanted to locate a new building/dwelling.
