More on Camelback road
Camelback Road is a prominent street in the Phoenix metropolitan area.
The street stretches continuously for approximately 33 miles from Scottsdale in the east to Litchfield Park in the west, and in the process runs through the city of Phoenix. Scottsdale Fashion Square is located at the corner of Camelback and Scottsdale Roads.[4]
Camelback Road runs directly south of Phoenix's famous Camelback Mountain and the Phoenician Resort. Further west, the upscale Biltmore district of Phoenix is located along Camelback Road, including the Arizona Biltmore Hotel (just to the north), Biltmore Fashion Park, as well as one of Phoenix's primary business districts (sometimes called the Camelback Corridor).
In Litchfield Park, Camelback Road passes the historic Wigwam Resort, built in 1918.[5]
West of Litchfield Park, Camelback Road skirts the southern boundary of Luke Air Force Base.
More on Phoenix
Phoenix (/ˈfiːnɪks/) (Navajo: Hoozdo; Spanish: Fénix or Fínix) is the capital and most-populous city in Arizona, with 1,680,992 people (as of 2019). It is also the fifth-most populous city in the United States and the largest state capital by population,[5] and the only state capital with a population of more than one million residents.[6][7]
Phoenix is the anchor of the Phoenix metropolitan area, also known as the Valley of the Sun, which in turn is part of the Salt River Valley. The metropolitan area is the 11th largest by population in the United States, with approximately 4.73 million people as of 2017.[8] Phoenix is the seat of Maricopa County and the largest city in the state at 517.9 square miles (1,341 km2), more than twice the size of Tucson and one of the largest cities in the United States.[9]
Phoenix was settled in 1867 as an agricultural community near the confluence of the Salt and Gila Rivers and was incorporated as a city in 1881. It became the capital of Arizona Territory in 1889.[10] It is in the northeastern reaches of the Sonoran Desert and has a hot desert climate.[11][12] Despite this, its canal system led to a thriving farming community with the original settler's crops remaining important parts of the Phoenix economy for decades, such as alfalfa, cotton, citrus, and hay.[13][14] Cotton, cattle, citrus, climate, and copper were known locally as the "Five C's" anchoring Phoenix's economy. These remained the driving forces of the city until after World War II, when high-tech companies began to move into the valley and air conditioning made Phoenix's hot summers more bearable.[15]
The city averaged a four percent annual population growth rate over a 40-year period from the mid-1960s to the mid-2000s.[16] This growth rate slowed during the Great Recession of 2007-09, and has rebounded slowly.[17] Phoenix is the cultural center of the state of Arizona.[18]
More on Scottsdale
Scottsdale is a city in the eastern part of Maricopa County, Arizona, United States, part of the Greater Phoenix Area. Named Scottsdale in 1894 after its founder Winfield Scott, a retired U.S. Army chaplain, the city was incorporated in 1951 with a population of 2,000. The 2019 population was estimated at 258,069.[3] Its slogan is "The West's Most Western Town."[5]
Scottsdale, 31 miles long and 11.4 miles wide at its widest point, shares boundaries with many other municipalities and entities. On the west, Scottsdale is bordered by Phoenix, Paradise Valley and unincorporated Maricopa County land. Carefree is along the western boundary, and shares Scottsdale's northern boundary with the Tonto National Forest. To the south Scottsdale is bordered by Tempe. The southern boundary is also occupied by the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, which extends along the eastern boundary, which also borders Fountain Hills, the McDowell Mountain Regional Park and more unincorporated Maricopa County land.[6]
The city is loosely divided into four areas: South Scottsdale (McKellips Road north to Thomas Road),[46] Old Town (Downtown) Scottsdale, Central Scottsdale (also known as the "Shea Corridor,"[47] extending from Camelback Road north to Shea Boulevard), and North Scottsdale.
