I along with many other folks hate to see more restrictions on our freedom to do what we enjoy without interference, however, l (especially in the last few years), Find myself increasingly questioning the wisdom of allowing people to engage in such a responsibility heavy activity as boating on the honor system of self education. Not only are so many ignorant of the laws on the water, they become immediately arrogant when you even very politely inform them of their responsibilities as the master of a vessel. Jet skis are the scourge of recreational water sports. They should be completely banned within 100 yards of any other recreational or professional water activity. Also, a 25mph speed limit is pointless, because that too is a lethal speed. I would say 6 mph is ample when near other water bound activities. When you are far enough to not be a danger to others, by all means have fun, but don’t put others at risk.

This is why jet skis are banned from most all the lakes and ponds in Massachusetts. They did it to themselves.

I've been commercial fishing/crabbing for over 30 years in Florida and these jet ski's get crazy running over our wakes. In the channels! Not sure how fast that boat was going but from the sound of the interview it wasn't a no-wake zone.

25 mph on the water is a little more than 20 knots haha. Most recreational boats full throttle max out around 30 knots. Could probably lower it from 25 mph down to 10 or 15

A speed limit would not have helped with this.....jet ski operators run into boats and other jet skis often. I've seen it a million times. If you don't have good situation awareness then that's on them

Jet Skiers are like motorcyclist, the ride fast and dangerously then blame those who drive automobiles of not watching out for them.

That should definitely be a no wake zone in that very narrow channel. Neither the boat nor the jet ski should have been traveling that fast in that area. A totally preventable scenario.

Not if the jet skier isn’t looking around for other watercraft’s. He’d be hit at any speed.

I live on a lake in northern Michigan. The seafoods have only one speed !! Flat out !! Then they make very fast turns without looking behind them and end up getting hit by either a boat or another seafood !!!

My Wife and I spent 30 years exploring the rivers of Florida and Southern GA by canoe. It was a quiet and peaceful way to share our time together. We had to give it up after several "near misses" from Jet Ski's being operated by children. They had no limits and were oblivious to the deadly threat they posed to the rest of us. The "we have just as much right as you" attitude seems to prevail. My Wife is gone now and I'm too old to canoe these days. Too bad, really.

Shocking….New Zealand it’s 5 knots within 200m of shore or 50 m of another boat (for Americans that’s about 219 yards, and 55 yards….

That's way too narrow of a stretch of water for a 70mph speed limit. Heck, 25 mph is too fast for that little crick
