Good video. Good that you included the bit about the shoes. There is a misconception that hiking boots are needed to WALK the Camino de Santiago, but as you stated in the video a great deal of the Camino is actually on improved/paved surfaces or semi-improved. Very little woodland walking involved. I've walked it twice, and both times I wore non-waterproof, lightweight Merrell hiking shoes. They worked great. The pilgrims I observed suffering from bad blisters and foot problems always seemed to be wearing, heavy, leather hiking boots. Also good point about ponchos. Yes, walking in a poncho you will sweat a great deal. A lightweight, breathable, waterproof rain jacket is way better. I wore a Columbia brand one, and got it for less than $50.00 (US).

silk scarf. It's light and when it's wet, great to put around neck. Also will identify your pack and possibly a drying cloth. It really worked for me

This is a great video and you have fantastic advice! I didn't even think of using tennis shoes for the camino, I assumed you had to use hiking boots!

I used toe sock liners with sock liners over the toe sock liners. I also used vaseline on my toes and heels. No blisters at all.

Hallo da, interesting and well made video, but please NEVER EVER drink of rivers or open waters when you are at a place like Northern Spain (or France, or Germany, or anywhere else...). (Unless you spot a spring, with anything else around, or you are in the mountains and sure there is no settlement above you.) It´s not only because of the bacterias, but Northern Spain has a dense agriculture and nowadays this doesn´t come without fertilization, chemicals and particularly pesticides, which no matter what, are then later in the rivers you will drink out of. Even if you are able to filter with your equipment, pesticides might be still in that water. So take care Marc

@traveleska1374

+Ellen Ehrenberg My temperature rating is for +12°C. On the camino you are usually sleeping in closed spaces and not camping out in the woods.

What about thieves in the hostels? how u protect ur stuff while sleeping or taking a shower?
@TVismyopiate
10 жыл бұрын
Well, trust people in an ideal world... or if you meet someone you know you can trust immediately, ask them to look out for your stuff. Thieves will exist in the hostels at some point, but generally I 'imagine' it is safer than most hostel environments, if in a small village / town at least. TIP: Have a smaller bag/container with your most valuable items in (phone/passport/other ID/wallet/tickets/camera memory card backups) that is waterproof and durable, but lightweight, then bring it with you into the shower-room, and when sleeping, sleep with it flat under your pillow, that's what I do. Also, if you can spare the weight, there exist mesh-type cable-nets you put around the whole of your pack, and lock (they weigh a few hundred grams though). That's more convenient for places where people WON'T just lift your whole pack and sneak off with it (I wouldn't leave it on a busy street like this, but I would leave it in a hostel room like this, running the lock through some solid object like the corner of a bedframe, for example. Solo travelling can be a little bit paranoid - but you MUST avoid this by planning well to avert most risk. Then travel (even alone) with a relaxed smile on your face.

Hi. Super informatives Video. Wieviel hat dein Rucksack ungefähr gepackt gewogen? Und waren deine Nikes wasserdicht? GlG, Flo☺
@traveleska1374
9 жыл бұрын
Mein Rucksack hat gepackt 7kg gewogen. Dazu kommen noch das Gewicht für Wasser und Proviant. Also max 9kg insgesamt. Die nikes sind 0,00% wasserdicht. Sie sind nur für den Hochsommer zu empfehlen. Wenn du wasserdichte Schuhe brauchst würde ich die Nikes auf keinen Fall empfehlen.
