Lakeshore Foundation welcomed 33 youth with amputations or who utilize wheelchairs to the first Junior Amputee & Wheelchair Sports Camp (JAWS). Participants were introduced to a variety of adaptive sports including Paralympic sports taught by Paralympic athletes.
"The focus of the Junior Amputee & Wheelchair Sports Camp is to expose youth to the possibility of using sports to help them realize their potential," said Peggy Turner, director of recreation and athletics. "Our goal is for these kids who have amputations or who use wheelchairs to see what sports opportunities are available to them, gain confidence and continue pursuing their sport long after next week. We want them to see and believe the opportunities are there. That's the first step to taking their dreams to the next level."
Activities included adaptive archery, wheelchair basketball, swimming, wheelchair tennis, track & field, sitting volleyball, cycling, and slalom.
