Welcome back to Dogs of the Wind! In this episode we revisit Nylsvley - this time in the wet season. Nylsvley provides some of the most affordable camping around, and as we mention in the video, there's plenty of bush for your buck.
We were in for a special treat this time, as we met a group of researchers working on a field guide of small mammals. We learned a lot about rodents and other small mammals, like the fact that shrews are actually insectivores, and that small mammals can be an indicator of the health of the veldt. It was therefore not a great sign that there were very few small mammals in the area, but it may have been due to the recent flooding in the region.
We counted ourselves extremely lucky to witness two leopards stalking the edge of the tree-line at Jacana hide one early morning.
This video turned out to be longer than expected, but we hope you enjoy this birding excursion to one of our favourite spots.
