Weird happenings in a forest:- I was at a company conference at a castle in the UK that had a gorgeous forest nearby. Our boss said “let’s have a walk in the forest” so he and four of us went along - after about 2 hours - the weirdest thing happened - he said “ok guys, let’s go back and I’ll buy you all lunch” - now that was WEIRD. Great video as usual - thanks. Now subscribed.

Had to laugh when I saw this one. Been there many times, as it used to be a buddy's deer camp from Archery opener til the end of rifle season. Rarely used now.. except for the party crowd. Pfeiffer Lake campground was only 5 miles up the road, but would have been full. There is a nice dispersed site on the right about halfway between that site and the campground, if you're ever up that way again. I enjoy your content.

I was waiting for bigger disappointment- like losing the ribs in the fire again. :) Nonetheless, the weekend did not turn out too bad. Just finding a lonely spot out there is a big win. And finding those places takes a bit of effort. Either you got to be good at interpreting the aerial photos or have boots or rubber on the ground poking around til you come across one. In Minnesota there is probably a whole bunch more to discover.

What a cool job! I'd love any tips you can give. You will have to look back at the video called Abandoned US Forestry Campground. So many people lost their minds when I called that site abandoned. I bet you will recognize it. I don't give the location to remote or dispersed sites online. I do give the names of the campgrounds though. I've had a dozen or more people get upset and unsubscribe because I don't put the GPS coordinates in my descriptions. But oh well....I spent years finding those spots and thousands of dollars in fuel on the forest roads. Here is that video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/kpVt4KydhKeiZpg A forest worker talked to me that weekend. He was the one who said the Forest Department abandoned the site for a new location up river.

I notice you strap your slide in when you travel. Does your slide tend to work its way out if you dont stap it?
@KennyOfAllTrades
Жыл бұрын
No problems yet. I did that because some of the trails I go on are really hard on the camper. There's not much holding the slide in other than the motor. I put the stap in place to help relieve the stress. I did notice the lag bolts holding the motor down were loose a few years back. I tightened them up. That's the only issue I've had with the slide.
@Propworn
Жыл бұрын
I've been down some old logging roads and crossed ruts where one wheel has been 2 feet in the air. 4-wheel drive front and rear axles and hubs locked. The brake on that electric motor is pretty good the slide never moved on mine. Have you looked past the seals on your slide? Open it all the way and pull the seal away from the side and inspect the bolts on the rails for the slide. I found every one of mine had backed out a bit. I used a swivel socket and extensions to tighten them up again. Do not use lube of any kind on those slide rails and gear tracks. It attracts grit and gives premature wear.
@KennyOfAllTrades
Жыл бұрын
@Propworn That's a good tip. I try to do that a few times a year. I have a couple of videos that show both wheels off the ground while taking these trails. I've never had more than two at the same time. I don't hold back on the truck and camper. I've been stuck my fair share of times. I find 100% and keep pushing. You only live once.
@KennyOfAllTrades

I use a product by Thetford for conditioning the slide seals. I spray them down and rub the conditioner into the rubber. I also use there dry lubricant spray for the rails. I have seen a needle barring lying on the floor I the camper. I'm not sure which bearing it came from. That was a few years back before KZitem. It hasn't given me any issues yet.
@Propworn
Жыл бұрын
Ever had the pins let go that drive the slide mechanism. I have so I carry 5/16 and 1/4 grade 8 bolts and nuts so I can replace them on the go. I had the slide gearbox explode while on a trip. No one will have one and they run about 7 to 800 bucks on line. More for the exact replacement at the dealer. The emergency crank will not work because the whole gearbox was busted. Took some effort but we were able to push the slide in. From the back door you can look under and se everything. Under the drawer on the back seat I was able to access the motor and gear box and remove it. Automotive store had a 1/2 to 3/4 socket adaptor which fit inside the square drive tube. I was able to crank the slide in and out with my 1/2 extensions and breaker bar. When in I could reach underneath and use vice grips and a c clamp to lock it in place. Did this in and out for three weeks the remainder of my trip.

That would definitely get my heart beating! I keep my gopro beside me at night. I'm waiting for a bear to break into by sewer hose box. I also keep my trash locked up in it. Last week, something broke into it while parked at home. I had that burnt cheesy bread in it from the video a few weeks ago.

That would have been perfect! I didn't plan that one out very well. I could have made a wild rice soup in the Dutch oven.

That's where I was when two small stones were thrown at me while walking an ATV trail in a grass field. There were no trees near by, I knew it wasn't acorns whizzing past my head. A few minutes prior to the walk, I was flying the drone looking where the trails led, so I now I was alone. I thought it was weird. Someone mentioned that birds will drop stones if they feel you are a threat. I guess that's one explanation.

I appreciate the calm, unhurried way you go about your camp activities. It really adds to the appeal of your videos. Add to that your beautiful nature imagery, fitting music choices, campfires and your narration all add up to really quality videos-in my humble opinion. Gosh, thanks for sharing!

You really do a fabulous job filming & editing these videos. That site seems wonderful and sometimes things don't go perfectly. That's life! Accidents happen, stay safe. Love seeing you out in the outdoors. BTW, I was riding my horse out in the middle of nowhere a couple of years ago and heard very loud whoops (5 or 6). Definitely had the hair on the back of my neck standing up!😮

If I was sitting alone, in the forest, at night, I would have a shotgun sitting on my lap. I will admit, I am a chicken! Just walking into that bathroom would have me freaked out. Great video, Kenny! Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. I hope you are ok after your injuries!!

I enjoy your camping videos so much, Kenny. Your laidback approach, the video and editing, even your music adds to the whole video experience. No yelling, goofing around, loud headbanger music…just a nice calm day and night in the woods. I’m sorry about your bump (head skin!). Thank you for posting this!

Once again great video, I can attest that there is nothing wrong with those woods - my hunting camp is just a couple miles from that shooting range - the place that was mowed on the left with the parking space and trail on the right - we're about 1 1/4 miles back from the logging mess. Spend almost every weekend out there in the summer - and no bigfoot yet. There are moose out there - we've had 2 bulls on the cameras again this year, and have seen 2 cows last year. The bull came by my stand last deer season - got my attention, huge animals. You might get a northern out of Big Rice, but you're better off riding the bike down to Pfieffer lake - bass, perch, sunnies and I've heard walleye, but I haven't fished it for a long time, so no guarantees. Thanks for all the entertainment, keep them coming.

Although there's no markers, just a few miles back at the railroad crossing next to the gravel pit you were looking at staying, is where, in 1934 Bobbi the Father of the Finnish deer herd was caught - him and 6 other fawns were shipped back to Finland to help repopulate their herd which now numbers 21,000 - some interesting history to google. We've often said we should contact Finland to see if they could return the favor. Parts of the foundation of the Neimi homestead can still be seen along the river there. And a few miles from there lived Otto Walta the Finnish superman - lots of interesting stories and folklore about him to to read on google - kind of the areas Paul Bunyan. So what may seems as just a long dirt road can sometimes hold a bit of forgotten history. Hope that helps to break some of the bad aura feelings from the weekend.
