"Camptown Races"
played by “King Altonium” by H. N. White, made in USA around 1936
Written by Stephen Collins Foster, 1850
I played a famous song by Stephen Foster, the "father of American folk music," on a King Altonium.
The original title of this song is "Gwine to Run All Night, or De Camptown Races." That's a long title lol. Camptown is a town in northeastern Pennsylvania where annual grass races were held long ago. It's a fun song with a light rhythm.
This instrument was originally a replacement instrument for horn players, and the shank is also designed to fit the horn's mouthpiece. I play this with alto horn’s one. It's an old instrument, so the pitch is a little difficult, but I like the soft and gentle tone.
Gwine to Run All Night, or De Camptown Races"(一晩中走れ、あるいはキャンプタウンの競馬)と言うそうです。
