I seriously have to say that the footage from this is incredible… speaking as an Edmontonian that has lived in Australia for the last 25 years and I don’t get much hockey out here, I really think the NHL should start putting some cameras on certain players including goalies and superstars like Connor McDavid. I think it would really improve the experience of the fan watching the games… I think you’ve proved that it can look pretty spectacular

Years ago when I was a pretty dang good beer leaguer, I spent an afternoon playing with couple fourth line Euro pro players . Those guys were incredible for strength, speed, and skills. And they were fourth liners. Total respect for pro hockey players. The super stars like McDavid are on a completely different planet from us mortals.

So in one of my leagues we Played against a guy that lit us up. Wasn’t flashy but always seemed to be in The right place all the time. Always seems to be able snake around guys and his shot was off quick and deadly accurate. We hadn’t seen him Before so our rep grabbed the time sheet and checked out his stats. He literally was involved in every goal either assisting or scoring. I think he got 7 points. Then one of our guys googled him and he played in the Q then played out east at a university and then played 5 years in Europe. I couldn’t imagine how could an NHL player would be.

We had the brother of Frank Simonetti, alumni of the big bad 90s Bruins, on our beer league team this year. About 55, 6’3” maybe 200lbs, assistant captain at Norwich University. He absolutely dominated, I’ve never seen anyone at any age at that size float around opposing players like he did, not to mention most of them being 20 years younger

Having played pick up with some pro players (NHL farm team guys, not even NHL) most folks just con't comprehend how elite a pro anything is. Speed, precision, ability to make the right play and be in the right place all the time, IQ, it's off the charts compared to even a good normal athlete. I once played a pick up game with a guy who had just gotten out of a pro league, (Don't remember which one, but not the big show) My buddy was a college hockey player and a decent one at that. A few of the guys out there were pretty good by most standards. This guy toyed with us all like we were a group of 5 year olds. His speed was effortless, and nobody could touch him, not even remotely. It was one of those times I realized how truly elite these guys are. When I hear people talk about how "so and so" kid might have a shot at pro, and I have seen "so and so" play, I just shake my head and smile. Most are just big fish in a very small pond.

I've been using this app for about 7 months and it freaks out sometimes/somehow and says I jump up to like 19-21mph. There's no way I'm hitting top speed of 14.5mph and then all of a sudden jump up to NHL speed lmao. I heard it depends on the watch and some are more accurate than others. The unfortunate thing about those glitches is it affects all of the other calculations it does like fitness level and skating efficiency. But the vo2 max tracker is super cool I don't have anything else on my watch that can track that so it's nice to see when I lose the beer belly my vo2 max goes up gives me something further to aim for...also holy crap your vo2max is very good!

Really curious how gamespeed compares. On outdoor ice on a really cold (fast) day Strava tells me I hit 26.7MPH once, but that's not in hockey gear or in a game, with about 200 feet of space to really just sprint. I'm also not sold on that number being correct, other than that usually my sprint is like 21-24MPH, and closing on 27 is very fast. I haven't played men's league since pre-COVID, but now I want to know how different that speed is from actual gamespeed with full pads on.
