After a brief research, I found the title of the picture @ 9:35: ""Doe" Morris moves through heavy grass in a deserted rice paddy while on patrol during operation Kentucky V with A Company, 1st Battalion, 4th Marines."

@@Hamfrags It's been a reverse search, so no big deal. Couldn't find out more about Doe Morris, though.

Helicopters were in their very early infancy in WWII 🤷🏻♂️

Yes! I must admit, I didn't know helicopters existed at all back then, but didn't think of that before editing it the next day. Turned out they apparently just about did, but putting that image in there was definitely to mask the fact that I didn't realize. 😅

I've been thinking of how to turn that hobby of mine into a KZitem channel for a while now, and haven't quite come up with the perfect concept yet. The thing is, my entire family is Danish (except for one 3rd great grandpa), so Danish genealogy is the only kind that I can speak of with any sort of confidence. And that's quite narrow. But I've thought of starting a channel where I take an interesting or random gravestone, newspaper article, etc, and then research the unknown stories and people that they're about. Maybe when I get the time this summer I'll try out the format.

This is actually a useful skill, that comes up quite a bit in Genealogy groups. It’s usually in the context of portraiture. A general idea of women’s fashion is really useful for this purpose.

It's a skill I don't possess, I've been "lucky" to not really have found any unlabeled photos in my genealogy, so I've been able to go by the apparent age of children, etc. But I know a lot of people on the Genealogy Discord server seem to be very good at it! If you haven't already watched it. I recommend a video by Karolina Zebrovska where she demolishes my score using just the clothing.

This was super interesting, I would not have done as well! Totally different skillset than GeoGuessr - the only way I can tell years apart is through camera generations 😆

Genealogist and not a military historian, which is fair enough. Mass use of helicopters for transport wasn't really a thing until Vietnam.

"I don't even know if the US participated at all in WW I" ....................... my ears

It's actually interesting how I have so much more of an idea of how the war ramped up, compared to how it ended. Perhaps cus it was a less explosive end than the sequel. Obviously being from a country which didn't participate (except the Danes under German rule) means the war hasn't come up in my genealogy. But although it didn't hit me while recording, I'm aware of the WWI draft cards that American Genealogists like to use in their research. I understand it's mostly first gen immigrants who were sent to war, so it can be a good source for foreign born ancestors.

Not bad... I was surprised you went for 1990 with the war foto.. it's an american + familiar machine gun + jungle.. clearly Vietnam. what else could it be?

I really can't explain myself in a fulfilling way. The jungle should've tipped me off that this wasn't a training session. :) I think in the uncut version of the video, I ended up talking myself further forwards in time because of the strange device on his helmet. I did not recognize the gun nor his nationality. Shame, because that could've been a great score.

Very much enjoyed watching your reactions (2:28) and appreciated the text additions (12:12), haha! Very interesting too to hear the British/American accent you've got as a Danish person. Your cadence is like that of an American news reporter from the 60s, with some British inflections.

Haha, I've been told I speak English in a distinct way before, but never with this amount of specificity! Apart from influence from movies and lots of KZitem, I think it must be related to how my father talks. I've been told we both speak Danish in a similar manner. Perhaps he was influenced by radio announcers in the 60s. :)

Not only were tanks in use during WWI, the United States was absolutely a participating country with the Allied Powers. Sorry man, had to turn this video off after you said that.
