Things like this amaze me, as a mechanic I love removing parts dismantling them and reassembling after cleaning so I know the work effort and time taken to do this kind of thing and the expense of it too, I'm kind of guessing that as satisfying as this is the cost would be somewhat close to buying a new one.

Not on a Rolex. Watch value far exceeds the cost of this restoration.
@sbhimji4568

No. Restoration would cost at a watchmaker would be about $500-$750. The watch is a 2 tone Datejust. It's value is around $10,000
@todtalk3912
2 жыл бұрын
@@sbhimji4568 right, if its his watch. If its anyone else's and sent to a watchmaker, you know need to tack on a few thousand for his work in addition to up charging for cost of parts. Its how you get the title and big money jobs. If ur real customer n lets say it was ur dads watch, you want it to look the way it did when ur dad bought it, for 900 bucks or whatever it prob was lol. Point is, like many things in life, its usually cheaper to buy new than to do a complete restoration. People lose huge money on cars, but they have an attachment to that car, in some way. So that makes it worth it to them. Something is worth what someone will pay (case in point, 2022 Corvette serial number 1 for like 3 million dollars, that car is no diff than one being made tight now by chevy with serial number 2001 ya know). Point is, price is subjective in every situation. Not everyone cares about everything being an investment either.
@sbhimji4568
2 жыл бұрын
@@todtalk3912 Not exactly. Keep in mind I mentioned restoration prices, not servicing prices, and I noted the price in dollars. The job that was done on the watch in the above video was apparently done in Asia. The price is accurate, in dollars, for the work done in Asia. This would include labor, new parts, a full service, and shipping.

I love rebuilding V-8 engines, so having parts leftover is automatic because of all the upgrades I replace them with. Timing belt? Gear drive with rollers! Points distributor? Electronic induction rotor! Two-barrel carb and intake? Four-barrel carb with dual-plane intake! And sometimes you add parts that weren't there initially but improve performance, like oil pan baffles or fuel injection rails. I love engines... at least muscle car engines. You can keep your European ones.

Should be in the three zeros zone
@TheMadTatter
2 жыл бұрын
@@magnumpunch without doubt. How far into the three zeroes range it is will depend on how much of the original case, bezel and bracelet they were able to save, and how much had to be replaced. The bezel for instance has quite a deep gouge in it, and while certainly not impossible to remove and polish, it's going to be very, very tricky to get exactly right, particularly with that facet on the bezel as well. The bracelet similarly has quite severe damage, but with where it is in the bracelet it may have been possible to just replace one link and repolish and refinish the whole thing so it looked brand new. There are a lot of considerations depending on how the job was carried out, but for an end result like that it's worth every last penny. I say this as someone who spent over a decade in the jewellery industry with quite a large part of my job spent refinishing used jewellery and watches, if you find someone who is THIS good at what they do, don't even ask "how much?" Just go with them.
