Do you believe AI can provide personalized legal advice and counsel?

AI is pretty good for legal advice, but it is still wrong a significant portion of the time. Perhaps GPT-5 will change that this summer. AI is a great resource to get basic information. Or you can use an attorney who is leveraging AI to keep legal fees to a minimum and provide the most value to you.

Law these days is about rules, not right or wrong in any moral sense. Law these days is made for AI. For it has nothing to do with conscience anymore.

But aren't those rules often created with a sense of what's right or wrong in a moral context? Additionally, in common law countries, judges are allowed to use their own sense of morality to decide a case and establish a precedent, aren't they? Not everyone adheres to hardcore legal positivism like you. Some lawyers still believe in natural law.

I think ai will never ever replace lawyer . The fact that a human rents a robot to deffend him is just crazy . Plus i dont see an ai will bi capable to go to the court and do arguments because you must be creative with your arguments you cannot just reply like a robot . Trust also and morality is crucial ... Being a lawyer is simply a job that only humans can do. But of course ai will change the legal feild for better and will help lawyer taking down more work in little time and will help costumers by reducing the costs that are really expensive . Finally being a lawyer sometimes require that you know everything about your client even the deepest secrets and also ai is not good with this job .

ChatGPT is only a language tool. It is capable of translating an English contract into German. But the German translation will NOT comply with German contract law standards. Because ChatGPT has not LEARNED to understand those (yet). A good start could be to use ChatGPT, first to translate the laws on the books into a programing language. And then use this produced (legalese) logic to have ChatGPT predict outcomes and consequences or find gaps or flaws in such logic. I think this should be doable in Pascal or the like. Happy programming !

It's all about knowing how to correctly prompt it. Which will significantly narrow down the incorrect output of it. Which means you still have to cross reference the information it spits out before you go running into a court case. But, it definitely saves massive time (which = $ in lawyerville). You have to read it and feed it.. Clearly it's in it's infancy stage and has no field experience (court hearings), but it can definitely be used for the individual to create a strong case, then hire an experienced unbundled attorney to help you paint the overall picture. If attorneys fail to jump on that bandwagon, they will definitely be washed away in time. There's too many people who are tired of being dragged through the legal system without being genuinely and accurately represented. And having all of their money for the case siphoned out of them for sub par results. Good luck and stay safe everyone.

Great points. AI provides a lot of value now. And the better it gets, the more we can rely on it for legal information. I’m excited for future and the way people will be empowered by AI without having to rely as much on attorneys.

You need a person to show up in court and go through the process. AI can't do that. Lawyers won't be replaced. But it will significantly reduce the work look of the paralegal/legal assistants. The lawyers are just rubber stampers. The barely work, their main function is credentials. The paralegals/legal assistants do most of the work and AI will cut down their work load which means, wages will lower, work hours will lower, and the amount jobs will lower.

John, I agree. But I also think it’s only a matter of time before the next version of ChatGPT leapfrogs over Claude. As I understand it, GPT-5 is mind blowing, and they are training it now. Industry observers suggest it will be released this summer.

I’m a little bit confused. Towards the beginning of the video you say that AI will be able to replace lawyers but at the end you say you don’t think AI will wipe out the profession of law. Are you saying that AI might replace entry level lawyers but lawyers that are more experienced will simply just use AI to become more efficient at their job?

That is funny. I didn't know someone might actually use ChatGPT in court. It makes up information often, no surprise. However, what if we have a proper legal AI that is trained only on real cases and statutes? Then, lawyers could genuinely use AI in court and get away with it. Even untrained regular folks could use it. Why would they need lawyers then?
