I don't really want to "shred." I just want to play a few slow notes that sound like Duane Allman! 🙂

And you’re well on your way! Your version of “shred” is really you becoming the version of your guitar playing self you most want to become. So for you, you COULD play fast if you wanted (because you put in the time and practice correctly- you’ve proved that). It’s just not what you’re after. But know that if you WANTED to become a really fast player, you easily could do it

I have trouble believing anyone can shred, because it seems FAR removed from my skill set. However, having worked with you and improved greatly with your help, I lean towards having to trust your word on the subject, and admit that perhaps my practice habit is what actually holds me back! 😮😀

And improve you have! You’re already a very good guitarist AND quite fast to boot. If you spent an hour a day solely on repeating 2-3 speed exercises and nothing else, you’d be shredding in a matter of months. But the kind of music you’re into doesn’t really require shred so I don’t think you’ve really felt the need to commit practice time to shredding specifically. Playing really fast has never appealed to you all that much, if I recall correctly. you’ve definitely put the time in to become really really good at guitar and so this video is not aimed as much at a player like you because you’ve already done it! But if you wanted PURE SPEED and nothing else, you could have it easily 🤗

How to shred guitar: Step 1: You use a paper shredder Step 2: Disassemble your guitar Step 3: Add the flat pieces in the paper shredder Step 4: If there are thick pieces, just put it in And that is how you shred

Hello! 🤘😄 Interesting video, and good tips👍👍👍 It’s almost like science, find this technique so damn difficult- there are so many songs that I want to learn, but pass when I remember a part with shredding is involved 🤣 But practice makes hopefully almost perfect in a few decades haha! Have subscribed 😁

1 hour per day is a great advice, my guitar teacher told me a long time ago to do at least 1 hour, I usually did 90 minutes - 2 hours per day, in case some days I have a little time to play.

Heck yes! That’s the way to do it

I've done that only in my early years of playing the guitar, the 1-2 hours per day playing / practice daily, between like 2007 and 2015, after that I kind of stopped that pattern, so now I am a bit sloppy and would need to get back to that mindset of exercises 30-50 minutes and to be better at shredding.

@@EricBourassa Yeah I need to get back into the grind of practice daily, just having some health issues right now, but I have found some inspiration from people on youtube, even your video inspired me to get back to 1 hour a day practice the guitar at least again like in the old days.

@@EricBourassa I play for 4 hours a day but im sure i could still improve what i spend each hour on. i play along to tracks and that has helped my improvisation with my drummer and i practice scales and mostly just try to imitate my favorites hendrix , black sabbath , and led zep tracks i started surprising myself a few months ago when i would play alot of notes note for note not ever perfect obviously but my progress honestly was very quick and i believe the TIME is a huge factor i always wanted to play and i felt like i lost years which I did im 24 started playing May of last year, only had an acoustic before last year and i didn’t really play it i was always intimidated by guitar but loved it once i picked up an electric last year and found my tone i even started doing shows with my drummer original music📀 just found your channel any advice on memorizing notes even faster i have quick a few of them down, all by ear but i know where they and i can flow through certain notes and run down strings i just want to find maybe some good excercise or plan to get focused like u said

I wish I could know how to shred properly. I don't know how to exactly, and my patience has gotten low.
@EricBourassa

100% you can shred. You MUST have patience. You gotta practice perfect- if you are missing notes frequently, slow down to where you can play perfectly and then do that a WHOLE LOT (more than you think you need to). If you're still stuck, send me an email ericDbourassa@gmail.com and we'll jump on a video call together.

hey Eric, if this is a myth maybe you can debunk it or prove it and this is relating to your point 3 on perfect practice: Is it necessary to keep pushing the tempo (while staying clean ofc) in order to play fast? In other words, a saying is sometimes thrown around "if you never practice fast, you'll never be fast". Or can you get speed results by just playing slow for days/months and somehow your hands will suddenly know how to play fast after so much slow repetition?
@EricBourassa

Generally, my experience has been- focus on playing slow and perfect for days/weeks/months. Then suddenly try to go fast. I think you'll like the results. Trying to get faster every single day is a losing proposition. It's like trying to lose weight and saying, "Today I'm losing X lbs!" It's more about a consistent process that gives you results over time. On a daily basis, I shoot for 80/20: 80% of my time playing slow and perfect, 20% trying to push speed a LITTLE (at the end of practicing)
