I won’t exaggerate or bend the truth whatsoever. This past couple of months have been one disaster following another. And in owning a farm, that doesn’t mean you can let other chores go to take care of what decides to interrupt the normal daily routine.
We’ve lost some beautiful trees, some by storm and some pines by pine beetles. Regardless they need to be cleared from the forest roads first so the forestry department can access our mountains and forests in case there’s a wildfire in the near future.
I was going to utilize some tulip poplar trees to build the new pole barn but decided to use the forest yellow pine instead. The pine beetles will kill even more if I don’t remove some from the forest that are already dying.
Peeling the bark is the hardest part. But when it’s all done it will be worth it. The barn should last for the next hundred years. I hope.
We are expecting several new milk cows this coming Spring so time is of the essence. Beyond the disasters I’m thankful for life, my health and the ability to accomplish the task before me. I give God the ultimate glory.
Welch Family Homestead is dedicated to being not just a farm, but a destination for people to have weddings, reunions, seminars and as a backdrop for photography.
Building the structure here is a bit unique. The goal is to have the ambiance of going back in time into the 1800s Appalachian Mountains.
Pray for our mission and farm. It isn’t easy sometimes. But the purpose is our motivation.
Todays video is just a quick hello on this beautiful day. I will upload more videos to follow up the building of the new barn and the posts. Thank you for your patience.
God bless,
Jef
