ABOUT TODAYS VIDEO: Can Dogs Eat Apples
Can Dogs Eat Apple Cores?
Make sure to de-core the apple first so your dog doesn't get anything stuck in their throat. And while the seeds do release small amounts of cyanogenic glycosides, which create cyanide, unless your dogs eating a lot of apple seeds, this won't be a problem.
Give your dog the same apples you like including the skin. But wash all non organic apples in water with some added apple cider vinegar to clear any pesticide residue.
Give apples as a treat and the apples dogs seem to like best are the old wrinkly ones going soft and bruised that no-one wants because they're sweeter and naturally semi digested from sitting, hence the sweet sugary and semi fermented flavor and smell. That's how dogs like their fruit, sweet and easier to digest.
How Much Apple Can a Dog Eat?
Wash, de-core and cut thin slices and give a couple slices to small dogs several days each week. For medium dogs give a quarter to half an apple as slices a week and for larger dogs one whole apple as slices per week.
7 Benefits of Giving Dogs Apples:
1 Apples are well known for being high in vitamin C an excellent antioxidant and apples with the skin on are full of phytonutrients, which have shown active protection from some cancers in humans.
2 Vitamin C gets converted by the body into serotonin and this “happy chemical,” can act as a natural anti-depressant, helping to boost your dog’s mood.
3 Vitamin C can help benefit your dogs immune system, boosting health and preventing illness.
4 Apples also provide epicatechin, also found in dark chocolate. This substance is a vasodilator, that causes veins and arteries to widen, allowing more blood and oxygen to travel through the body.
5 Apples can be cut into suitable sized pieces for your dogs sizes and frozen as summer treats.
6 Apples can be de-cored, sliced thin and mixed in with your dogs meals to add some live enzyme rich food to kibbles.
7 Apples are high in fiber benefitting your dogs digestive system.
Many dogs enjoy the taste of apples and will happily eat a slice as a snack. Just feed in moderation and start slow with small amounts to check your dogs digestion levels.
