IRINA. You outdid yourself on this one for me, personally! As a burgeoning filmmaker living here in FL, fresh out of film school, wanting to "do business" in Jamaica, particularly in the film sector, I more than appreciated this video and its content. I have been networking for years with local Jamaican filmmakers down there and also have been watching locally "produced" Jamaican films down there as entertainment, but also as a glimpse into what is happening with the film industry landscape there. So its good to see that there are now funding in place for these independent filmmakers to apply to for financial help to make their projects better, as far as the resources needed. I can go on and on, but I have saved this video and have taken notes on some of the film sectors and individuals mentioned, and will move accordingly. Thank you so much again, for doing "the work", and keep it up! And yes, definitely apply yourself! I would love to see the likes of a "Marcus Garvey" or a "Nanny of the Maroons" type movie, etc. God bless! ✨🇯🇲❤

The last time I was in Jamaica, we went to a theme park in Ochi Rio's. it had shops and a cinema. I thought then that this would make a great place as a film set as the atmosphere felt dreamy and slightly cartoonish. For example I was walking along window gazing and was startled to look down and saw ducks with their ducklings just waddling along beside me as if they were going shopping too. Jamaica would be perfect for a netflix series due to the beautiful infrastructure and lively people.

The BBC produced two mini series from the novel by the author Andrea Levy.Small Island and long Song which were really good. I read the novel Black cake before the mini series, I was fascinate that this was the first time Chinese jamaicans had been featured . I've always thought the Chinese community in jamaica might be a good subject for a feature film or documentary. The Chinese community in jamaica was one of the largest after Cuba, up on till the 1970s when a lot of them left the island due to the turbulenceof that period. Ive read a few articles on the chinese in jamaica what I found interesting is that they assimilation far more into jamaican society then in other countries. (if am wrong please don't come for me Lol) the Chinese not only were the wholesalers, they also played a significant part in the bakery industry and also the music industry on the island. This might be a good subject.
@anibrii967

I honestly agree with a lot of what you said. As a Jamaican that lived in Jamaica for majority of my life, the Indians definitely felt more involved with the culture than let's say Chinese. I had a lot of Indian and coolie classmates than blasian, growing up. Majority of my pediatric care when I was younger came from doctors from India. That was typically their main profession. But it seems in recent years maybe due to the construction work happening on the island more mainland Chinese, are moving to the island. Which is where you get the narrative of 'Chinese are taking over the island'. But even before that Jamaica always had a significant Chinese population, working in corner shops and bakeries. I don't believe there's any town in Jamaica that doesn't have a Chinese store. I just hope as time goes on we'll be more integrated as a society.

🇯🇲🇯🇲 Despite our population size and because of our talents there are not “ too many rivers we cannot cross”. We’ve impacted cultures and mindsets with athletics, food, music and to a lesser extent potois, our unofficial but recognized national dialect. I’ve always thought that the average Jamaican is naturally endowed with confidence and ability to express oneself publicly, enough to be charismatic and camera-friendly. I’m not unaware that which is an “Oscar” performance on KZitem might not qualify to be in a B rated cinematic. However, I just think there are too many fermented talents lying around wasting away when showmanships and self-expressions are not unlike water trying to seek a level ground. No doubt this $billion film initiative will be a catylst to harvest many “ Hollywood-type fruits” that creative execs from yonder shores will come begging to know “how are they doing so much with so little”. We need not look very far when our track & field athletes were footnotes at the Olympics, to winning a few medals and now iconic world beaters. Let them keep asking the questions “ how and why”………the answer remains TALENT.

Rolling Calf stories were capable for keeping children running home before dark, despite the lack of special effects. I am thinking, The Blair Witch Project... Sesame Street may have a nice formula to bring to the island. SciFi and Fantasy fiction without the horror component would be nice to see. I recall, The Mighty Quinn. I currently believe the crime and depravity stories are already well explored by the US film industry when it comes to black people and don't need to see those, personally.
