Agreed, and I thought about whether cheesing it like that invalidates the "impossible" part of the challenge or not, but my rule is if the game allows it with no glitching, it's valid. Don't worry, Gran Turismo 3 takes care of that problem, as you will soon see haha

As you proved it's not too hard to knock out all of the GT League events in a challenge like this, but it might be hard to do this if you required yourself to do all of the Special Events as well. I think the Historic Car Cup and Lightweight K (which the Lupo would be your only option I could think of to use) would be the hardest in that case.

Think of it like holding an actual steering wheel at the top of the wheel and moving your hand left and right to turn the car. Bottom line, push forward on the stick, rotating it while holding it forward for steering.

License Test times in GTs 1 through 4 vary based on if you have NTSC_J, NTSC-US, or PAL. In most cases PAL is the hardest version with US being the easiest, with the exception of GT2's Rally Time Trials where NTSC_J has much easier times. The Cutting Room Floor has great info about the "Regional Differences." (They are missing the differences for GT3's Time Trials. IIRC, GT1 also had license test demonstrations located in Replay Theater.

Did you know that the R390 GT1 Road Car was reverse engineered from the race car? Rules back in the day said you need to have at least one homologated car to be able to enter the Le Mans 24h GT1 ( hence the name of the car) class. So Nissan went to Tom Walkinshaw Racing and together they build the LM version ( the 1997) car. after that, they reverse-engineered the race car into the car and got it homologated. This red/bordeaux road car is the original road car. It was rebuilt for the 1998 Le Mans race, most notable is the long heck the car got and its now really nice blue colour.

Not exactly the same challenge you are doing here but a lot of fun to make it through the game without buying a car. The gift cars do go along way with that. You could have dine the free races in the Honda from what i remember as it just outs similar cars to your own in those races. You made it harder by waiting to do them. To clarify from what I remember Free isn't related to horse power in that game it just means there is no license requirement. What's about the point of view/camera angle? I haven't watched many of these videos, so, maybe this is kind of sacrosant, but, have you ever considered changing to the chasing perspective? While the bumper camera increases the feel of speed and realism, it seems as if you don't feel the car's movement very well. In real life, your behind does that job. But in GT, without seeing the back of the car, you might lack the feeling for it breaking out. Some of your laps look as if that's what slows you down. Maybe it would be fun to try. The Spoon is so well balanced and light. It really is a great tool. And Tahiti is one of the races where the AI is much slower than you. It's one of the few tracks on which the dirt doesn't slow you down, so to you it's much wider than for the AI. In the two uphill right left combinations you can win even more time, when you enter blindly on the dirt and hit the perfect moment for swinging the car. I instantly hated the track and then loved it, because getting these two corners right (and the last one as you said) lets you beat much faster opponents.

11:51 There is actually a solution to this problem while in manual transmission-you can BUFFER your inputs. Simply hold down the up-shift button while you're in the loading screen, and you should shift into 2nd gear on the very first frame when the license test starts.

I do not know about the JP version, but I think that in the European version this challenge is impossible to be done. In that version you need to use the appropriated vehicle for each race! Example: Station wagon in the Station Wagon races; Compact for the Compact car races; etc BTW: great job! :)

You can clown the Muscle Car races pretty easily. You had the weight and handling advantage for all those races. All the muscle cars are awful at handling and they also are pretty restricted for their top speed. That S2000 was a good car for it. To add you could do the Grand Touring races, it gives you the daisin silvia, the unisia jecs gtr, and castrol nsx. Those races are pretty easy and those cars can go into other races as well.

The cool thing about this is that there's definitely a number of ways to do it - I do like that folks have observed other ways, makes for a fun puzzle :)

It's so great to see those license test again, because they teach you so much, which I wish the game would point out more prominently. The last one in B for instance, you learn how throwing FR cars into the first corner of an s-turn helps them stabilize, as they lean into the suspension. Find the right moment to swing and it perfectly leans in again. Thus, eliminating the d-pad-effect. Great fun to see that again.

This is still my favourite car game of all time and it isn’t even close. By today’s standards the handling is arcade, the configurability, the variety … genuinely, it’s on a different level. I have never found another game that *really* does what this does, only prettier. Never had a PS2, would consider GT3, but didn’t click with GT4, felt the driving model had moved on and not in a good way. Realism in car games is … laughable and always will be. To my mind I’ll always accept something where gratuitous power sliding, or that sweet semi-slide is the fastest, funnest way around a corner, and this game does it better than anything else. My best friend and I played this for untold hours. No analog sticks, not required.

Evo well able to win Super Touring. Don't worry about horsepower limits. The ai won't necessarily reach the target.

Relatively sure G# is the note the March makes at redline. That's pretty convenient, not sure if that was intentional. (btw, if you want to finesse the right control stick for throttle but you have fingers of butter like I do, what I do is PINCH the stick with my index and thumb (thumb at bottom and index at top), and use my index almost like a chock to stop my thumb from pushing the stick all the way up).

Fun fact: The JGTC cars (most obvious it is with racing Skylines, Supras and NSXs) have too much power in GT2. They're supposed to have a bit less than 500hp and also JGTC Skylines should be FR as well

When it comes to power limits, you spent way too much time searching for the perfect car. Most races can be one with cars much lower in hp than the A.I. and that's often where the fun begins. The biggest problem of GT2, apart from giving away the prize cars way too easy, was that there's hardly any challenging races. You could have won tons with the S2000 and have fun in the process.

If you have a good PS1 controller, or a PS2 controller with a very well taken care of, but very well broke in D pad, steering with it is far superior to the analog stick!!! Analog control did not get good until Gran Turismo4 and then they perfected it in GT5!!!

1:27 I'll have to say about the demonstration videos, they may be useful for just completing the licenses, but once you try to gold all licenses then they aren't that helpful. I recently played and got gold on all licenses on EU region rom and there were a few tests that was very, very hard. After banging my head against the wall for a long time I was like, "alright, I'll take a look at the demonstration" and the demo time was barely silver. At that point you know that some tests are rough when the devs couldn't make a gold time demo.

Hot take: I’ve never played a bad Gran Turismo game !!! They’re all good and if you’d like to be challenged, then even better !! (although the challenge was watered down a bit in GT6, still had events and trials, that were very challenging!!)

How about this new challenge: Beat GT2 (100%) with NO power upgrades!! Buying tyres, suspension, drivetrain, brakes, racing modification allowed! But you can't go up in hp! Good luck!

Yes, you can absolutely beat this game without ever having to spend a single credit!! There will be some races that are difficult, but if you unlock the right cars as well as get gold, and all the licenses at the beginning, you’ll start off with a few good cars that you can’t buy anyways !!!

You can also use the spoon S2000 to beat the 345HP race of the wagon three series race in special event!! The limit for the horsepower is 392 and the car is well under that and will win !!

When you win a car change oil first before you dive it. You will gain a couple HP in doing so. Just wanted to tell you that. Great video took me back.
@Movellandrone

The problem with this is that changing oil costs credits, which the challenge forbids using. So that’s out of the question sadly :/

I like the content length. Nothing wrong with having a long video for people to have on in the background (me) or for some to cruise through. Great stuff here. I’m very much enjoying it. It doesn’t hurt that I have a huge passion for GT2, my childhood’s most played game by a MILE.
