I have a Ball Python tale for you. Back in 1985I had an adult escape its cage. I looked everywhere for it to no avail. 3 months later I was playing bass for my punk rock band at a show and the missing snake came out of the back of my 240watt Risson bass head. It happened mid set and was quite a scene. I had that snake for years after.

Haha that's great, I'm sure it added to the show!

@ballpythonbreeder.co.uk_ yes indeed my roadie knew i always kept rice bags in my van for incidental herp encounters and sacked her up like it was planned. I just tripp out on how it didn't get shocked for 3 months. I had a 17 foot retic that would push 45lb plates off the tank from time to time. She was easy to find. She ended up in the Berlin zoo eventually. I don't keep herps anymore. I live in New Mexico and have an indigenous populace of critters. My area has the highest density of Sonoran Corals, and multiple Crotalus subspecies around. Big Pitouphis and Lampropeltis are my main finds. If I'm lucky I find a hognose or ringneck. I certainly don't miss feeding routines and the ever-present smell 9f snake shit in my house. I'm sure you know what I mean. They are certainly lovable and addictive . Just a lot of work.

All very good points! I would love to take my non venomous snakes outside but it is either too hot or will become too hot for them outside for most of the year in Arizona.

Thanks - and thank you for watching! I completely get what you're saying about the heat in Arizona. I went as a kid and it was intense (but worth it). I've been wanting to go back ever since! Great channel by the way 🙂

I have a small grassy patch at my apartment complex that I can walk my noodles over to and let them snake around. I only do it when it's in excess of 85 F (29.4 C).

Thank you, honestly needed this. I live in Georgia USA so im definitely afraid to let them roam in the grass lol. Mosquitoes, ticks and definitely mites everywhere. If i do take them to my backyard once in a blue moon i make sure im handling them safely

You're welcome. Ticks and mites are a constant pain for us reptile people!

In my experience, its not people that are a risk. Ive taken 12 ft Burmese out. It was Socal and 85f. Its mites from all the birds that presented the greatest threat. I also delivered herps to regional pet stores for a large wholesale operation. For the most part, snakes are very resilient. Lizards are completely different. Monitors, tegus, and Agamids are tough, Chameleons and young iguana, water dragons and geckos.are very sensitive.

It is true that when you live somewhere warm like SoCal you have to think seriously about wildlife disease. Birds carry a lot of everything - even here in the UK. Also, that's not the first time someone has told me about how sensitive Chameleons are - I'm curious how you can ship them without heavy losses?

I agree that forcing people who don't like snakes to see them is not a great idea for anyone .

People take dogs out. Lots of people are afraid of dogs.

@@michelleturner6865 this is true. But I'd guess the prevalence of people with a phobia to dogs is lower than those with one to snakes...

@@michelleturner6865 yeah i don't understand that point of him saying that the others i understand but should i start asking people in my neighborhood to stop walking there dogs? like lol im more likely to get killed by a dog then any snake around here🤣you should not be ashamed and scared of what others think abut your snake and if you are then thats a personal issue tbh. In my personal experience my neighbors were all interested in my snakes and it made them less afraid and understand them more and convinced them not to kill the local ones so maybe he should also consider that part of it.

@@ImCrxa No personal issue, I'm just aware that here in the UK a little over 40% of people apparently have either a fear or full blown phobia of snakes, whereas only about 10% have a fear of dogs. I don't want to make anyone's day worse, or have them adopt a negative view of the hobby by unintentionally scaring them. You're absolutely right, you can convince some people - but not all of them. Thank you for commenting 🙂
