As a swimmer who lives too far from a pool now, rowing indoors is my go-to exercise. It made sense to me but is so good to have my assumption verified! Great vid guys x

Have u been in the pool since spending time on a rower? I want one as prep for the next lockdowns. On the news they've started talking about number of people with covid in hospital never the fact they are diabetic 90 years with one kidney haha. Dont joke about it!!

@@nikitaw1982 sadly no, only open water and that isn’t quite as replicable as a pool swim for me

The triathlon world better watch out for Steph shes a badass! Quite a lot of ex rowers get into triathlon, myself included, for me the similarities come from understanding the principles in techniques on/in the water, both are about efficiently getting hold of water and leveraging past it

Collegiate rower turned triathlete here! I actually think there's a strong correlation between cycling and rowing. Certainly an excellent all around exercise and the mental fortitude required translates well to triathlon. Nice insights from Heather as rowing is not very intuitive.

Most ex rowers have a pretty rational fear of the erg. It’s been almost 30 years and I can still taste the blood….

Thank you that was really interesting, but you didn't mention running, am I wrong in thinking that if rowing helps quads, glutes, calves, core and upper body, it's also good as cross training for running?

Why GTN think rowing would be beneficial for swimming is similar how tennis would be beneficial for skiing - two completely different sports utilising different primary muscles

Question/Video Idea to the GTN Team - could you make a video on swim Ergs (vasa trainer, kayakPro, etc.?) More as an option for the home-gym. Would like to hear your thoughts on how good those skills transfer and how/when to integrate into a training plan.

I rowed at university and when I got into cycling (then triathlon) later on I found my quads built up much more easily than I expected and I put it down to that. Maybe I should revisit the erg. Maybe. 🤮

Funny story I focused on back squat, 5 sets 4 times a week. And hip flexors. Then when got on leg extension took full body tension from back squat and used hip flexors to keep bum in seat and after 2 months was lifting almost the full stack on the Matrix. I felt I could have gone full but felt improvement too quick and might tear a ligament off the bone. I drink a lot and not too active between g y m session although a fair bit of walking. But due to the drinking wasn't confident with my tendons. Covid hit and stopped the gym sessions. Mask nazi's chased me away. The idea of breathing through a dirty rag is just gross to me.
