Thank you Dr. John for making these videos without any background music which does nothing to help us focus on the message but only distracts our attention.

This was really interesting to watch - speaking first hand there are a few drugs with some pretty hefty side effects - always make sure they are reported! :)

Thanks Dr....I enjoy your videos....I've had chronic muscle pain in neck occipital scm and lower muscles for 3 yrs now not statin related.. been to many chiropractors multiple xrays spent tons of money and still no help
I’m on 40 mg Atorvastatin that I’ve been take twice a day for 13 years since my coronary bypass. I have had neck, shoulders, arm, and upper back pains for all those years since taking statins. Some days are worst than others. I’m in need for a cure ASAP! What should I do?

I am sure I had polymyalgia TWICE a few years after starting statins. - started first in 2005 in wrists then later a tingling neck then weak very painful shoulders then hips and then knees (in pairs over 3 months) Doc and me thought it was carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists (first affected joints, hot weak with tingling fingers) as I was over-practising guitar and as I waited 6 months for first wrist op, these other joints started having the pain in pairs over next few months - I thought it might be very bad seating posture for 8 hours a day at work, Doc asked me to wait for the op before checking out the neck and shoulders and I stupidly accepted this whilst other joints became affected and self medicated increasing to max Ibuprofen 400mg 6 times a day that only made things worse (this med can cause pain in itself)- the worst 9 months of my life, sleeping very badly for only 3 hours a night as I woke due to shoulder pain every time I turned, so brain fog, plus hobbling about like an old man at 53. I had one wrist alleviated after 6 months, the other got better 6 weeks later as I had stopped guitar after first op then all other joints got better after another 2 months for no reason. This all happened again 9 years later in 2015 for 6 months, but finally found a brutish physio who really opened up my joints (what agony) then made me stop the Ibuprofen dead and swim 30 mins every day - all went away. 5 years later the doc stopped the statins for god knows what reason - though I had questioned the doc about them after the second bout. UK NHS is crap

I always find it concerning when I get prescriptions for atorvastatin and gemfibrozil for a patient when there is a known interaction that increases the risk of muscle pain. What is your opinion of giving these medications in combination?
@ThinkYourHealth
2 жыл бұрын
I avoid these combinations as the risk of myopathy is increased as well as other side effects.Appreciate your thoughts.

Could vocal cord disfunction with stridor be connected to 10 years of simvastatin use? Nobody can find the root cause with all possible tests appearing normal. Thank you, doctor. I’m a recent subscriber and I appreciate your healthy lifestyle advise.

Looking at a literature search do not see a connection between the two.There is however a percentage with Pharyngolaryngeal pain (3% to 4%) reported in the literature for patients who take Atorvastatin.

When your older, all these symptoms he mentions as possible side effects are what you get with age anyhow, so how do you home in on whether it's the statins that cause them - you can't.I put the bins out & I'm aching the next day!

I have been taking crestor 30 mg everyday for a few years. Not until these 2 days, i have severe neck spasm on the left and I am not able to turn my head and i feel the pain when swallowing. It coincided with the time that i am taking iron supplement. Is there any interaction between statin and iron which may result in severe muscle spasm?
