@@ericjohnson3755 it ALSO depends on how hot each round is actually loaded to. You can have a round that's not loaded hot at all and shoot it out of a LONG barrel, if that's the case it would be slowing down the bullet. My apologies if it was mentioned already but one thing to note is that spacing the plates impedes penetration compared to sandwiching them together. Reason being is that spacing the plates will cause the projectile to destabilize and hit side on, which is not good for penetration. The Germans used spaced armor in WW2 to counter Soviet 14.5mm Anti tank rifles for this reason. Whether or not this was the desired result, I do not know, but someone everybody should be aware of.
@7150285

You are wrong. Before we start an argument I just want to let you know there are many videos online showing that spacing will only allow bullets to penetrate the plates much easier and FURTHER than sandwiching them together, because most likely with the spacing it wouldn't have any back support...

No flame intended, but that's a myth. The incidence of damage occurs far before support of the target makes any difference. At these forces the effect of supported vs. unsupported targets means nothing, ballistically or realistically.
