The hardest for me is to not tense up during fills. I also play way too loud when listening to music and playing on top. Really need to mic my kit to hear the actual volume!

Really focus on not having any tension at any tempo. So no matter the tempo I'm practicing at I ensure that I can play the exercise correctly but have it tension free. Then repeat at the next tempo and so on. You basically have to teach yourself to relax which sounds strange

Dave- Can you list out the cymbals that you are using by size and model? Love the sound for your ride…enjoy your lessons and style.

Sure. So I use predominantly Meinl cymbals. I'm not endorsed just love their stuff. I play; 14" Byzance Extra Thin Jazz Hats 17" Byzance Extra Thin Jazz Crash 10" custom stack made of a 10" Extra Dry Splash and the 10" part of the 10/12 Electro Stack 20" Impression Dry Jazz Ride. Hope that help and thanks for checking out my videos

Drum and cymbal placement is very important. Speed comes naturally with copious practice. As for stick control, bounce is only a small part of this. You missed quite a bit with this lesson.

Of course there's plenty I could have added but theres a balance to be struck between making an easy to digest lesson as well as one that flows. I also have plenty of other lessons on the channel all about building hand speed so should have all bases covered.

@@DaveMajor Yeah, Dave. Why wasn't this a 250 hour video to cover so much more?? Just kidding, of course. Your teachings are fantastic. Don't listen to the discouragers!
