Good morning Donna, Oooooouuuuu, what a gorgeous pattern, but there again i love butterflies because for me they represent new beginnings, a new start, new life, new hope. I would probably pick my butterflies to match, but add the various colours of flowers as they are attracted to all beautiful colours in mother nature. Although black wouldn't be my go to colour, it does bring out these happy colours so well and adds that something, that needed IT that makes the butterflies and blooms bloom out from the quilt. Thank you Donna for another beauty that will be for me, after i have made the first 2 quilts (getting ambitious and i haven't sewn my first quilt together yet, hee hee, hee). My 4 year old grandson is first on the list and i have it nearly all cut out for a disappearing 9 patch (just so that i don't cut Woody and Buzzs' heads off) . The 2nd is for my new special granddaughter who is 4 months old ( i am only granny through marriage to her grandpa), as i think it will be something that they can both keep and give to their children and grandchildren when they are up, but the now it will be theirs to cuddle into when a cuddle is all that will help. Thank you flower for yet another wonderful, informative and very helpful video, because you are helping bring so many crafters and non crafters to the world of sewing. Teaching people gently how to and why, keeping another skill alive in a very much driven electronic world. You give us peace time, happy time but also something that is needed more today in todays fast world, regeneration of the soul and mind. Sending crafty hugs to you, Matt and all at Jordan's who give so freely and willingly of their time and expertise. Norah, Glenochil Village, Central Scotland

Question, does a regular adult size quilt (a single bed size) require a whole spool of thread (Each spool being the size of the ones you showed) in order to be free motion quilted fully? Or does it need less/more thread? Just asking so I make sure I don’t run out and that I buy the correct amount of thread spools. I am aware that that it depends on factors such as the design intensity and whether it uses a lot of sewing thread but I just want a rough estimate.

@kathyf3656

This is why I don't use pre-cuts. Expensive and too much waste. I would pick a few colors I liked, work out the amount needed for one "butterfly", and make each "butterfly" out of a single color rather than scrappy.

Mat & Donna, I went from someone who barely knew how to sew to a good quilter because of your videos!! I always wanted to learn to quilt but I didn’t know anyone close to me who could teach me so I gave up a long time ago thinking I could ever learn. I had friends whose moms were quilters who weren’t interested in learning from their moms and I never understood that. I was kinda jealous. When I first discovered your channel I would watch and wonder IF I could do it. I’m a high school teacher and I love learning, naturally. Donna is such a fabulous teacher so I decided to try. It took awhile and many mistakes but I got it! I create beautiful quilts for my family and friends as gifts and I enjoy choosing fabrics and sewing up the patchwork. It’s really fun. Anyway I just wanted to say THANK YOU!! for your wonderful videos and your patient explanations. I really appreciate it. You’ve added a wonderful new pastime to this woman’s life. I can’t wait to dedicate more time to quilting when I finally retire. Been teaching for 27 years! Love and respect, Susan Taja

Oh I like this one with the black background and the quilting! Wowza! Thanks for showing us how this complicated-looking quilt is really not all that complicated. Also, I have a suggestion for a tutorial. I am intimidated by patterns. I have never bought a pattern that I haven't seen someone's tutorial for and even when I get the pattern, I rely less on the pattern and more on the tutorial to get me through the project. If you could show what the pattern says and show what the pattern maker means (arrows for seam allowances, decoding commonly used abbreviations, etc) that would be so helpful to newer quilters I think.
