I'm sure it is a status symbol for a lot of people but i think the primary reason for car sizes increasing is an arms race of sorts is occurring on our roads. People don't want to drive their family around in cars when there are SUV's around, people dont feel comfortable with their family in a SUV when there are lots of trucks around. I just wonder what's next... If I start seeing lots of family's driving around in dually HD pickups and then 10 wheeler dump trucks i think my brain will melt.

Americans throw money away and the automotive engineers know it and that’s why there will always be a mass market of large trucks in America. @@KB-bh9hp well the maverick is an escape without a 3rd row and a bed in place. I would expect the maverick to be a bit hardier than the santa cruz being a ford and all, but they are basically the same thing. Independent suspension and unibody. Its built on a decent platform, but being a CROSSOVER, structurally and mechanically, a camry has more in common with either the santa cruz or maverick. If ur planning to actually work with either. Id jus go for a certified used real truck. One lil ding on a unibody is u literally bending its frame. They are probably all good vehicles but a 68 el camino is more of a truck than either from a mechanical point of view.

I really wish you'd have re-measured the squat in the rear after driving it a little bit. The self-leveling shocks in the rear work after you get rolling over a few bumps. Visually, I could see a difference in the video from when you loaded and left to the end, after you did some driving around with the weight on. I suspect you regained an inch or two. Small oversight, but nice to see how well it handled a round bale - I dare say better than when I dropped one in my old 97 Sierra (2WD) a few years back for my brother's horses. Just didnt tow heavy enough often enough and it was expensive to maintain(and initial purchase cost was WOW), chewed through fuel and rode like a buckboard unloaded(only slightly better loaded heavy). My tacoma will tow 6800 lbs and get 20 plus mpg unloaded. Insurance cost went down. There are other bonuses as well but you get the point. Happy with it so far.

I'm in love with the Santa Cruz! It's something I will buy because it doesn't remind me of a truck, compares to the Maverick...The Maverick is for someone who owned a truck and want to downsize to something smaller or want a truck that is more economical... They don't care about all the tech features in cars. Just want something utilitarian and affordable. The Santa Cruz is for someone who wants a SUV. But needs the practicality of a truck bed. It's business in the front. Party in the back! Also, wants the tech features of a SUV... Hence why the base Maverick XL don't offer cruise control and power mirrors with steel wheelies. Which is typical Ford base minimum features in their trucks. The Santa Cruz tonneau cover is a feature that gives that SUV feel by storing personal cargo. Which is something I prefer to have. Good thing it's an optional feature and not something standard for those who don't need it.
@KB-bh9hp

Most of the maverick buyers, myself included, are coming from cars and crossovers lol. The maverick is a great truck for when you need it, and an outstanding commuter car for the day to day grind. The Sante Cruz is good, but it gets half the fuel economy of the maverick in the city, making it a more compromised commuter vehicle. It also has a smaller bed than the maverick, making it a more compromised truck. I also don't think the exterior styling the the Sante Cruz will age very well compared to the maverick. The interior of the maverick uses cheaper materials, but visually looks more interesting than the Sante Cruz. Which matters more to me, I'm looking at the interior every time I drive, I don't care if the top of the dash is made of plastic, it's not like I touch the top of my dashboard all the time. Then there's the fact that all the tech in the maverick is renowned for being very durable in other Ford's. But unless I'm mistaken, the Sante Cruz's transmission, and self-leveling suspension are unique to it, with reliability being an unknown variable.

And in the Maverick video, they actually loaded MORE weight than the vehicle was rated for and it looked like it could have put up with more. Great video guys. I really appreciate you reviewing the real capabilities of these "pickups" I have a 3/4 ton truck for my heavy work around the farm however I'm really interested in a smaller more efficient, comfortable truck to do the every day errands. Keep up the great work!

Find on Australian Farms a F350 would be used as a " car" if it exists at all and what you would call a MDT or a HDT Truck are used for work

Awesome. I loved the Subaru Brat as a kid then the Baja. This has the same shape. All I will be putting in the bed is my bike or massage table. This looks awesome. Have fun with the new ride🤗🤗

Santa Cruz has been great since I’ve had it the past few months. I have an F250 also so I went for the little truck with the most comfort for light day to day jobs. Only thing I wish it had was more premium features, a limited should come with power passenger seats. Memory. Power folding mirrors….

At least it has heated and cooled seats. The Maverick falls short on that creature comfort item.

Just curious since you have an F250 why you didn't go for the Maverick?
@sicilianr1

@@palebeachbum I’ve had a lot of trucks over the years, I’ll never buy another dodge after my 07 got a bad batch of diesel and dodge told me 28k to fix it. Chevy, not bad but I’ve had a couple motors go bad. Ford, transmissions mostly got me over the years. But I’ve had about half a dozen Hyundai/genesis products over the years and I’ve never had any kind of major problems with them. Worst thing was the sunroof on my G70 rattled and they messed around for weeks with different lube trying to not change it but eventually did. And when you look at the two trucks side by side, Santa Cruz looks 10 times better. A lot more power in the engine. The only advantage the maverick has is fuel economy and based on what I’m getting it’s not much different. Around town that hybrid will win, but I do mostly highway driving so It’s not a deal breaker for me.

Im more concerned at how much camping gear i can keep protected out of the weather in the bed. The weather resistant cover option on the Maverick is $1200. When I option a Mavrick like a limited Santa Cruz, I get just over $39,000. The Cruz is $42,000. The difference is I can buy a Cruz at MSRP and Ford dealers are jacking the Maverick prices. I do think the Cruz is a little nicer and more powerful but like the bed and looks of the Maverick more.

I think he has a much better understanding of what audiences would enjoy watching rather than other older generation of TFL staff. 😁 No offense to TFL veterans. But don’t carried away because without Roman, Andre and Nathan this channel wouldn’t have been where it is now! Keep up the good work folks! Have a happy holidays!

I've had the non turbo version, base model, payed 26k OTD, love it, use it as my daily driver and callout truck for RV repair, the locking toolbox holds all my power tools nicely and the rear seat is nice for keeping tool bags in. overall been a great lil truck

I think you're comparing apples to oranges if I want a real truck to haul heavy stuff it wouldn't be a Maverick That's what I have a real truck for if you want something that didn't look like a matchbox square butt ugly and we'll still haul dirt mulch bags of cement Ect I would buy a Santa Cruz more options less money better warranty and not ugly Just saying

Loading that completely inept Santa Cruz with an old FORD Tractor. This vehicle is for yuppies. Its hideous. The Maverick can actually perform work duties like the bigger trucks.

Why are you comparing a turbo charged 4wd vs a hybrid 2wd ? If you are going to compare at least compare like models. They exist for both vehicles. Just because you can't or didn't get them does not make this valid. Usually you guys do meaningful comparisons, this one is trash.

good lord, this is stupid. The Santa Cruz is not a farm truck. If you'd done a video using it for camping, kayaking or something like that, then it would have been benficial. Trying to compare it to the Maverick and use it like a farm truck is just stupid.

in REAL farm life the bed is maybe enough for odds and ends and certain tools. this test is completely useless and not real. try using this "truck" for REAL farm chores and see what happens. does it fit the needs of CERAIN ppl? sure it does, but don't try and tell people it's a real pickup that can handle farm work. you're just going to make people buy something completely useless to them if they can only have one truck. this is not it. TRUST ME! don't fall for the crap people. you're gonna end up buying a bigger truck SPECIALLY if you have an actual farm in North America. this maybe enough for small European tasks. lol. seriously though, get real. this is not to bash anyone. just a reality check.

Why do these trucks have to be uni body, they should build a small truck on frame truck too match something like a 1995 Tacoma.
