Absolute beast of a card right?

I had a 7850 back then and switched to a 670 months later. The Kepler, first GCN, Maxwell and Pascal were truly generation jumping gpu's, sad that its not like that today. The last time we have seen that again was the 1080 TI. Idk if we will see huge jumps like that again esp since ai taa scaling is booming and its seeming everything will be optimized around it. Those cards were actually powerhouses in those times, there weren't no "Oh some high settings, some medium with ray tracing etc blah blah." You popped one of those bad boys in and maxed everything in 1080 and gamed, wow, the times have changed.

Absolutely agree with all of this. I also think that companies now want to release something new every year to seem innovative. 10 series was the final major jump we had. Now, it's increments at best.

@@TechNuovo I agree with that statement also. How innovative do they want to get. FSR and dlss was the latest an probably one of the greatest innovated tech that debuted. They Implemented that on the 5k/6k/7k(FSR) series from amd and 3k/4k series from nvidia. DLSS and fsr/ Frame gen works on 5000's and 2000's series. Excluding 3.5dlss, they could of just stopped it right there and recently dropped the 6k and 3k series. They waste a shit ton of margins off gpu's that weren't brought and then try to recuperate it with wild price hikes. The 6800 is a prime example of wasted margins. This gpu is 4 years old now and still with raw rasterization it can almost max any game at its rated resolution of 1440p. So why release a whole new batch of gpu's? The 6950XT was amd raw rast 4k card vise versa for the 3090. Why make the 4k and 7k series then? They are useless and a prime example is the 4090. Its insanely fast but still brought to its knees in alan wake 4k res with rt. But with frame gen and dlss/fsr it could play this title with over 70fps. News flash! So can the 6950xt and 3090.

I bought a 7970 that was a gigahertz edition I think and the seller had flashed to the 280x bios without a problem. I wonder if the card is more game compatible becauxe of it.

That's possible maybe. I've also got a 280x here. Going to get it on the testbed and compare between the two. Stay tuned for the results!

Same, sans the hard BIOS flashing. Just slapped on R.ID's custom drivers and it wringed out a smidgen more performance out of an already capable, if not aging card. Good experience 1080p Low on DOOM Eternal and a decent experience on 1080p Low in Dead Island 2, on a Sandy Bridge i5-2320 rig. All this coming from a $25USD card I scored off of a local deal off Facebook Marketplace.

@TechNuovo Believe it or not, I had the MSI Twin Frozr variant of the 7970 way back when. It ran DOOM 2016 at 1080p Low like a freaking dream, and everything else I threw at it in my personal Steam library, it did not give any flying figs. Classic Radeon Power, indeed. Shout out to Green Ham Gaming! 💚

Funny seeing this model again. I actually got an HD 7970 back a couple years ago to serve as a GPU in my test bed. Little did I know what I had aquired. The variant I got was the ASUS Direct copper 2, but not the normal variant that had this version of I/O. The one I got had not one but 2 DVI ports and, get this, QUAD displayports on it. I payed about 40 or 60 bucks for it I think, and turns out its worth a few hundred at least, so it's a welcome addition to my collection and has been through many of my tests and going strongly too. It's also a tripple-slot card that weights a staggaring 5 whole pounds.
