Thanks for the interesting video. My takeaway would be that when designing something for 3D printing you have to take the material into consideration. You can't just take measurements of the existing thing and model it 1-to-1. You've generally got to make things a lot more beefy for them to hold up. If you look at something like 3D printed joints on some 3D printers, they are way thicker than metal counterparts.

All the editing tropes I was expecting, and loved! I don't have resin printer (yet) but have been brainstorming ways to improve strength of my FDM prints via grassroots methods. One of the new-to-me materials I've been working with recently, albeit for heat-testing reasons, is chopped strand basalt. I suspect getting a VERY short shredded version into your resin pool would add a moderate amount of strength, provided it doesn't interfere with light transmission. If that were to be the case, chopped fiberglass mat comes in such sizes and becomes translucent in resin. And if you really want to play scientist, silicon carbide can be had in a variety of grits. Currently I'm working with 1500 grit as a topical additive in combination with other sprayable ceramics. I doubt that would work in suspension, but you could certainly blow it through an airbrushed-sized sandblaster (the exact method I use for my testing with composite materials; it's a light, airy powder so be prepared for a big flippin' mess) as a topcoat with a traditional epoxy resin binder, building up a layered shell.

the biggest one though Joel is that a driver isn't 1 material as others have noted.. its typically 2 or even 3, but primarily its a shell wood or composite with a denser wood or metal core often with a plate across it, both for energy transfer and to spread out the impact across the head itself etc.. the structure of the neck is also important as no doubt you've seen.. Still fun and interesting vid... would be interesting to see if you added some flex material to cushion the shaft itself how things might go.

He ended up having to trash that driver. If only we knew 10 years later that we'd be able to just print a new head.
@CDRaff
4 жыл бұрын
So for future reference you can remove the head of a golf club. There might be a screw holding it so look for that first. After that(or if you don't find a screw) use a heat gun to heat up the joint between the head and the shaft. After a bit the glue will start to soften and you can start yanking on it and after a bit of work it will come off. Then you don't have to rely on the epoxy joint.
