Hi. The XJ600 has a PRI Position on the Fuelcock. If your Carbs are empty you have to switch to PRI and let the Bike sit for 5 to 10min. This will gravity fill your Carbs with fule an the bike starts much better. Just in case you did not know this. Very cool Video as always. Grüße

In addition to the PRI setting on the fuel tap, in general it is a good idea to tap on the float bowls with the back of a screwdriver - light but firm taps. Sometimes when carbs sit the needles stick either closed or open and need a nudge to start working properly. It is a good idea to prime the carbs with the bottle before hooking the tank. In any case I'm glad to see the bike running and actually sounds good and even on idle. IMO you should check if the fuel filter flows fuel by gravity and you should have an inline filter just in case. Another thing you can check is if all eshaust pipes are warming up evenly with a cold bike.

When checking each exhaust pipe do not use your bare hands! Use an Infrared thermometer for accurate readings, or use a folded up rag or sponge wet with water to dab each pipe, 212°F or 100°C arrives quickly on each exhaust pipe if each cylinder is firing.

The oil light on these isn’t for oil pressure, but oil sump level. It works like a toilet float and sits upside down at the very bottom of (underneath) the engine. It’s therefore prone to getting filled with oil sludge and working slow. If your oil level is good, you could just ignore it. Also, you could’ve just removed the caliper from the bracket by undoing the lower glide pin and pushed the pistons back. Normally it should be fairly easy to push them by fingers, else the caliper is up for some love. Besides that, keep up the good work! Wrenching knowledge comes from trials and errors, accompanied by service manuals and youtube info 👍🏻

Replace the vacuum diaphragm fuel pump with an electric low pressure one, you can buy it on many marketplaces for about 10-15 dollars. These were installed on newer generations of diversion. With the vacuum that you have installed, if you run out of gasoline, you will spend all the battery charge and will not pump enough gasoline into the carburetor float chambers. Now, just like you, I have two xj600s. On the first one, 1993, brought to Russia from the Netherlands, I have been installing fuel injection since March, but the second one, 1994, brought from Germany, with stock mikuni carburators, has a modification of the fuel pump to an electric low pressure one. Yamaha itself has abandoned the vacuum, and I advise you to do the same. I also purchased an ultrasonic cleaning bath and washed the carburetors there. In addition, they were dirty and the secondary throttles were moving through, 2 of the 4 membranes were torn. After replacing damaged parts and seals and synchronizing the carburetors, the bike ran as if it were made today. I really loved this model and now I want to make cartridge emulators for the front fork, like those produced by american racetech. Keep making new videos! Even though you are a novice motorcycle mechanic, I really like your enthusiasm!

Of you want a oem+ quality fuelpump thats easy to mount, the pump of the vfr750f (rc36-2) is very easy to mount. It stops automaticly when "at pressure" so it keeps the carbs perfectly filled. Its just 2 wires, 12v+ and 12v-. I dont know if any other pumps do this, but this one works amazingly and is engineered for four floatbowls on 34mm carbs, same one as on the 600rr i think. So should work well on this too. You can also permanently leave the tap on prime if you want of replace it with a non-vacuum fuelcock, because the fuel pump has a checkvalve. It also makes working with a fuel filter 100% hassle free. Its the tourmax fuel pump. They distribute the OE mitsubishi pump, so its litterally as good as origional.

The early XJ600 Diversion fuel pump is operated by vacuum pulses. It is quite awful. There were times with ours when we didn't switch to reserve in time and the engine died then the battery would be flat before it had cranked enough to refill the carbs. The oil light is an oil level light, but it is wired up to light up when the engine isn't running. This way you know if the bulb is working (but also makes it look like an oil pressure light)

It's so nice to see the bike that started the channel is running again. As other comments have stated, you simply weren't getting fuel into the carbs when trying to start. Due to all your fuel lines being empty.

Your carbs where empty as some other comments already explained. Even when the carbs are full a similar prohlem can occur. I unfortunately had this every time with my XJ600, its very annoying. When i dont start the bike for 2 days or so the fuel in the carbs turns bad and dont ignite as easily anymore. This is a common issue with this model and they even explain this in de manual. The later models came with an electric fuel pump to prevent this. If i start the bike every day 1 press on the button and its fine. If it stands for 2-3 days i need 10 tries or so before it slowlyyyyy want to start. So if you ever have this dont be scared immediately and rember this can be the issues. Happy to see you got it running!

This video is good and the situation is great for content for a youtuber but for the rest ofus simple people its a great example why you should never buy an old bike, lol. And ive been there, too. Buying a 500-1500 euro motorcycle thinking its cheap and easy to work on but in the end you sink hundreds, thousands of euros, countless hours of work into it, and in the end its still and old junky motorcycle. Much, much better to just save a couple thousand euros and buy something from 2015+, with new tech and no issues, peace of mind is incredible. Ive had a bike from the 90s, never again! :)

@@reneverheij6938 but nobody wants to learn that. its a cold, dirty ugly thing, you need tools, a garage, you cut your hands, get oil and dirt and muck, things are crusty and stuck in place, carbs desync, engines run bad, they break down, its a pain. and it costs more. and at 5k€ , anew bike is a way better choice

@@LiviuXSAModern bikes use the same technology. Changing oil or brake pads is the same job, and experienced hands are better at any job. Safe choice to learn skills on a cheap bike. I agree that when bikes are too old or neglected, there seems to be no end to things that need fixing. Bad wiring, connectors, brittle rubbers, rust, etc. can spoil all the fun.
