Pre-ejaculate, or pre-cum, is a clear fluid released from the penis during sexual arousal that does not contain sperm in itself. However, if the man has recently ejaculated or small amounts of sperm have leaked out of the penis prior to ejaculation, sperm may be present in pre-ejaculate. While the risk of pregnancy from pre-ejaculate is low, it is not impossible, and women who engage in sexual activity without contraception are at risk. Emergency contraception can be used to help prevent pregnancy if taken within a certain time frame.
