That is remarkable, thanks for driving the three hours to show it to us.

20 years ago while camping in Death Valley, it rained and rained, I drove to Bad Water and there was this lake. I asked a ranger if it was ok to canoe the lake, "sure, there is no rules against it since it's such a rarity. And canoe I did, ended up having a small note in Canoeist Magazine. Most amazing park.

Truly Amazing Mike! I heard there is a huge aquifer under the valley that some wealthy opportunists are attempting to control! 🧐

Howdy! That aquifer you're probably thinking of is out in the Mojave Desert not far from Joshua Tree.

It was somewhat surreal to be wading in a lake in Death Valley.

Wow, Thank you for taking us to badwater basin while it had water in it. I did not think anyone was going to document it and I was not sure it would still have water in it when I get to see it. It is a truly amazing site. The sun set was great too. Thank you again for taking us along.

If I remember correctly, in 2005 or 2006 Death Valley filled with water as well. I remember reading a story of a guy taking his kayak out there.

Thanks for the update. I bet that water with all the minerals in it did your feet a world of good. I don't know, maybe there was something in there that might not have been so great, but for the most part it was probably alright. Did you taste it? I would have been curious to know if it tasted salty.

That water in Death Valley is very, very salty tasting. I don't think it's a true sodium chloride but probably closer to a calcium chloride.

That water likely has all sorts of minerals in it, potassium chloride, calcium chloride, sodium chloride, silicates etc.

@@anitasimmons3599 Fill me in, because I don't know. Would that water be a good thing to swim around in, or would it be ill advised?

@@yokkaichi1 I am not from California so I can not speak for those basins, but if you search the web for California water resources you will likely find a report on the water in the basin. I looked up some of the springs along the PCT, and found information on some of those and some of the hot springs too. California is a real mixed bag when it comes to water because it has a mining industry as well as agriculture and other industries that can affect water quality

@@anitasimmons3599 Thanks for the terrific reply. Hadn't thought about them being polluted. Certainly a consideration.

Much of the Great Basin was a lake, but automobiles from thousands of years ago caused extreme climate change.

Those pesky automobiles from thousands of years ago ruined it for all of us. 🙂

The industrial revolution and more recently the automobile. Coal and fossil fuels have definitely had an impact.
