Wow, was really skeptical watching this interview, closed it twice, thinking he was just really privileged or boring but somehow resumed later, just to see what this dude has to say, then after a while of watching I was amazed that this dude dude really has a lot of extremely important and good stuff to share. Just hear him out guys, in entirety. He has some gold to share that puts to practise what JoPo talks about often

He started riding a bus with nothing. Pretty much the opposite of privileged, at least by American standards. I've been in the Philippines living in the province and squatter neighborhoods for 3 years, and believe me, everyone lucky enough to be born in America is privileged.

All of the information on Jesse is out there if you look for it. Dudes a genuine , risk taking, maverick of a human. Hate on him if you’d like but he’s had more crazy life branches than most people. He didn’t “buy” a SEAL, David Goggins isn’t someone anyone could buy. Listen to the stories, they are brutal and beautiful. Keep being armchair critics , it’s much easier than using brain power. Cheers

41:06 I wonder what sort of meditation or mindfulness practice endorses the mantra, “Remember tomorrow.” Depending on the form of meditative practice, one may acknowledge time is an illusion, there is no such thing as tomorrow, and we are only able to live in the moment.

Jesse Itzler is super fascinating and inspiring. Although his journey-stories are all wonderful, my favorite ones by far are his stories about how it was like to live with David Goggins. I always HAVE TO REMEMBER that David Goggins STARTED as a kid with a learning disability, just like my son. But if you look at Goggins' OLD PHOTOS and compare them with his new ones, you can see that he looks so much younger and more handsome today than when he was younger. Goggins is like the caterpillar that has turned into a BUTTERFLY, the same creature but you can't recognize it after the VAST TRANSFORMATION into a mean, lean machine. God bless you David Goggins, Dave Rubin, and Jesse Itzler whom I sent an email to. (Dave's staff who is reading this, kindly inform Mr. Jesse Itzler about it). Thank you. God bless us all.

If this interview is as uncomfortable for you as it was for me, remember the words of Marcellus Wallace: "...you might feel a slight sting. That's pride f**kin' with you. F**k pride! Pride only hurts, it never helps. You fight through that sh!t. 'Cause a year from now, when you kicking it in the Caribbean, you gonna say to yourself, "Marcellus Wallace was right." Guy ain't wrong.

i feel bad for Jesse that none of the Brothers walked him through what to do and how to do it............he went into silence and only encountered himself, not God. i am glad he feels he was helped, but, he really missed the most important part. Further, "Remember tomorrow"?, why not the saying of the Saints, "Remember your death". tomorrow isn't promised, you could be dead tonight, are you ready? How could no one have told him about the logismoi......? The Doctors of the Church teach that there are 3 levels of difficulty regarding labor. The first level (and the easiest by far) is manual labor. The second is the set prayers mandatory for religious and priests. The third level, which all Christians are called to, is the work in the Interior Life. Facing the voices within is no joke, but one must do so to become into Gods Love. Jesus is the Way to the Kingdom Within. As an aside, there is a reason why the Scripture relates people as trees and grass. Trees and grass don't 'do' to grow, they don't run a bunch of miles, they sit still, in silence, and God gives the growth. If you want to grow, go sit in stillness, breathing, placing yourself before God, and He will reveal Himself to you. For my fellow seekers truth, a gift: Assault - the logismoi first attacks a person's mind Interaction - a person opens up a dialogue with the logismoi Consent - a person consents to do what the logismoi urges him to do Defeat - a person becomes hostage to the logismoi and finds it more difficult to resist Passion or Obsession - the logismoi becomes an entrenched reality within the nous of a person

Another idea for technology downtime, we have Sundays technology free. No TV, computers and no phones. The only exception is that we are allowed to receive phone calls. In this way, we can only connect with people who have our phone numbers, which is friends and family. And while typing, washing dishes, for both my wife and I, is like a form of meditation.

He got mad when Rubin showed the music video and started talking about it. Jesse Itzler's face of embarrassment was classic. That being said, he has nothing to be embarrassed for. He had a Beastie Boys sound that was indicative of the era. It's a cool tidbit he shouldn't be bothered.

This phenomenon of "famous" or great achievement or great failure within a short time and specific place is not new. The great period of Greek philosophy theater poetry and science happened over a period of 50 to 75 years within a small geographical area.

I love the term "mono-tasker"! I can not multi-task and get anything done. Not being able to multi-task always made me feel inadequate. It seems like society tells people that if we don't multi-task and are single task focused, we're worthless and unproductive. But really society needs to allow people to be mono-taskers some, if not most, of the time. It really does help with the built up anxiety of living in a complex, busy world.

There is a tradition in the Catholic Church of spending a few days or weeks in a monastery with the monks. We call it a retreat and it’s not considered a trivial, meaningless experience. You can get a feel for the monastic life in a short period of time.
@likablecunt8756
6 жыл бұрын
Nubby Rose that is very interesting, sounds like a nice tradition. The point is not that you shouldn't do 14 days. The point is that you are still a hatchling after the experience, and you should probably let more dedicated people talk about the wisdoms found within the monastery life.
@heythere4970

You're missing the point. I haven't read the book, but if it's anything like this interview then he's only relaying the positive lessons he's learned, which will hopefully inspire and better hisbreaders. There's nothing wrong with that. And I'm sure he's not proclaiming to be more than a "hatchling".

I don’t know whether this adds to the discussion or not but the BBC did a documentary in 2005 about 5 or 6 men spending 40 days in a monastery. The program is called “The Monastery” and it’s on KZitem. It was an interesting program. The reason I mention it is the idea of having non religious types spend a short time in a monastery can provide a unique perspective on the experience.

Sarah Jacobs - judging by this comment (and your many other equally ridiculous ones) you must not know what it's like to be in a *healthy* relationship/marriage. How do you know his wife doesn't plan her own mini adventures where *she* gets to have "me-time" and *he* takes over the household duties? And I guess you missed all of his mentions of his *entire family* going on trips together? Maybe you should do some reflecting of your own because you're a terribly negative individual and that's not good for you or the people around you.

" What is mysticism? Mysticism is the acceptance of allegations without evidence or proof, either apart from or against the evidence of one’s senses and one’s reason. Mysticism is the claim to some non-sensory, non-rational, non-definable, non-identifiable means of knowledge, such as “instinct,” “intuition,” “revelation,” or any form of “just knowing.” Reason is the perception of reality, and rests on a single axiom: the Law of Identity. Mysticism is the claim to the perception of some other reality - other than the one in which we live - whose definition is only that it is not natural, it is supernatural, and is to be perceived by some form of unnatural or supernatural means. So, I wonder how much of his time his wife and kids get. It sounds like not very much. It also sounds like his wife spends a lot of time helping him recuperate. Wow. That "relationship with time, not with people" thing is a great excuse for narcissistic behavior. I'll have to remember that one.
@Leatherargento

How much of his wife's life is spent taking camping trips and getting away from it all? Oh, that's right. She's taking care of four children and dealing with a husband who is often literally unreachable to help her with them. I know she chose him, but, I feel like a traditional, Long Island type of girl, cannot anticipate life with a guy like that. She encourages his insane sprees and prays they keep paying off. Also, there are Jewish religious and spiritual retreats. The fact that he daytripped at a Christian monastery for two weeks just shows that he's living life with the assumption that everything he ever needed was in Oz, and not in his own backyard.
