You can dice avocado or mash it with a touch of lemon juice and freeze it in ziploc bags. Works great! Don't salt before you freeze.

i freeze avocados all the time. i wait till they are ripe and then scoop out and cube the flesh and put it into tubs. half an avocado in each tub. then i use them (frozen) to make smoothies. the avocados look pretty green when i take them out of the freezer. i don't know why your avocado turned brown. maybe it was already overripe when you froze it? or maybe it had to with leaving the seed and skin on. i've also tried thawing mine (either in the refrigerator or on the counter). they do brown a little bit (not as much as yours) and as usual you can minimize that by limiting contact with air. works well spread on sandwiches. no bitterness at all.
@AmareshJoshi

the texture is a little softer than before, but i generally wait till they are pretty ripe before i freeze them. it's okay for salads, but it's hard to completely avoid browning when they are thawing. i think it would be better pureed or spread on a sandwich. there's no bitterness like you see in overripe avocados.

@AmareshJoshi

@@Carolinar74 i normally use them in smoothies and i just put the frozen avocado pieces into blender. whenever i've tried defrosting in the refrigerator the avocado turns brown. the taste is the same but it doesn't look so great. i think if you can freeze the avocados with little or no air in the container then you may be able to retain the fresh color.when i pull them out of the freezer they are still bright green; it's only defrosting them in contact (even the little bit of) air in the plastic tub that discolors them.

For decades I have eaten avocado. That avocado with all the black streaks indicates an over ripe fruit. If the avocado gives too much when squeezed, you are gambling with it being over ripe. If it gives JUST a bit it may be perfect. It's really an art. I think cutting it before before freezing will save a lot of wasted time and expectations. I would never freeze it whole for that reason.

I'm thinking that if you are going to freeze a whole avocado, to first wrap in plastic wrap and put in a ziplock bag and squeeze the air out. The unwrapped whole avocado may have gotten freezer burn as the skin is permeable.

You can freeze avacodos by peeling them and cutting them up in cube size pieces cover them in lemon juice then freeze them. When they're froze take them out break them away from the tray break them up put them in freezer bag and put them back in the freezer and take the portion out u need.

I have three fruiting trees. I have surplus fruits & so, I removed the pulp, mashed it with a fork, added one tablespoon of fresh lemon juice, put it in a zip-lock bag after removing all possible air in it & tossed it into the freezer. I did this two years back. I still have some packets frozen in the freezer. They are in perfect condition. Yes, freezing a whole Avocado is not a good idea. Also, chunks of Avocado pulp can also be frozen similarly. I live in Dehardun, Uttarakhanmd, India. I am growing Fuerte.

Ok just stick the whole avocado skin and all on the freezer! Easy peasy! You can out it in a bag if you want to help keep air out, but I have done it both ways. Stays green and consistency is a little more mushy than fresh, otherwise great. The thing is not to wait until they are getting over ripe. Buy a heap and when ready to eat but still firm freeze the surplus

Based on your "instructional" video, I think you should watch other people's videos on avocado-freezing tips and and learn about avocados. If your fruit is already rotten in the first place, I'll definitely come out like the one you had. It's like freezing a decomposing body and expect it to come out "fresh".

Well given the bags of frozen avocado you can buy at stores, the answer yes. But how do they taste? The bag I got from Sprouts was okay. If I made something with it and added seasoning, it was fine. But when I ate a piece, it was exceptionally bland

Your first clue to the imminent failure should have been wondering why the avocados from the UK were cut and packaged the way they were, and then wondering why you were throwing whole avocados unprotected into a freezing environment and expecting perhaps the same resulting successful freezing. I also freeze peaches, for smoothies, as well as strawberries and blueberries, but I don’t throw them uncut and unprotected into the freezer and expect them to be anything more than dried up shriveled pieces of garbage.

Well, I felt a 7+ minute video was going to help me figure out the best way to freeze them and protect them, and I never expected one this long being a method of throwing a whole piece into the freezer unprotected. The only thing that ever goes into a freezer unprotected for more than a quick firming freeze is ice cubes. Foods need to be wrapped and protected from the freezing air. I couldn't even imagine tossing unwrapped produce into a freezer. I'm still stunned that anyone would think produce could protect itself from frost because it's not cut open yet.

Don't put them in water, they'll turn pretty slimy. The best methods for refrigeration actually are: 1) brushing with lemon juice and wrapping tightly in plastic wrap with the pit left in (but some lemony taste will get in, so not for me); 2) Place it on top of a handful of coarsely chopped onion in a container; 2) in a zipper bag with the air sucked out of it with a straw or in plastic wrap, no brushing of anything on it; 3) brushing cut surface with olive oil and wrapping in plastic wrap; 4) plopping it it water in the fridge, no more than 48 hrs, but the surface will become slimy. I think freezing them is the best bet, though, unless you plan on eating the leftovers from the fridge the very next day.
