In this series we delve into the world of flipping electronics for profit. From broken iPhones and gaming consoles to computers and laptops, we'll repair and resell these items to make money. Starting with just $100, we'll embark on a journey to see how far we can go. This series serves as a fun side hustle experiment, and I'm thrilled to document and share any valuable insights I gain throughout the process.
In today's episode we have a broken iPhone 11 with a capacity of 64GB that is carrier unlocked. This iPhone was purchased for $200 and the only real issue is it has a broken screen. After sourcing a new screen, we were able to fix the phone and have it in working order.
Since this iPhone 11 comes in the color red, I wanted to see if color impacts a buyer's decision when it comes to purchasing an iPhone. I decided to plot a small experiment to see if I could get more inquiries when it comes to a iPhone that come in fun/special colors than compared to a generic colored iPhone, think your blacks, grays and whites.
So, I decided to go out an purchase a used iPhone 11 in the color black with similar specs with money outside of the flipping for a profit budget. My goal was to list both phones on Facebook Marketplace and track the amount of messages/inquiries that I got on Messenger to gauge interest between the two phones.
By the end of 10 days, the red iPhone 11 was able to receive 21 inquires. While the black iPhone 11 got 5 inquires demonstrating that Facebook Marketplace buyers tend to have more interest when it comes to the more fun colors in iPhones.
