Can't believe you're the only post i found about this gap in the market. All the actual speaker mounts i have seen are way too close to the wall and could do with way more flexibility.

I literally bought these mounts for the same intended purpose, and didnt even see this video until just last night. They say great minds think alike! Though I admit the U-bar is next level genius. It looks clean, and it fixes the over all problem

I just finished doing this project, and the only modification I made was adding some L-Braces on the side, since my speakers are mounted to a Standing desk, so its prone to falling without them. Aside from that, I pretty much followed your video at pretty much the minute detail.

same idea here!!! i also thought of using some straight clamps and attaching a small metal projector/mic tray. premade speaker mounts/stands are too expensive and i was thinking of a workaround. great video!

You can achieve the same by using a long cable tie (tiewrap) to fix the plate instead of that U bolt. Yes that u bolt looks cooler but less doable for people less familiar with drilling. Great video, i will also do this.

Yes, most certainly. I thought about just zip-tying in the back instead of the U-bolt....but I wanted something that would .......conceivably, last longer than a zip-tie and I wouldn't have to check to see if the zip-tie or zip-ties had broken/worn out, etc. But yes, totally an option instead of the U-bolt solution

Just a word of advice as a manual machinist its just general practice to cut on the heavy side what i mean by that is cut just slightly off of the line on the side to be discarded to allow for mistakes also please use a face shield when grinding or cutting with a grinder its saved me an expensive surgery after the wheel shattered and lodged into the shield instead of my face
@MarcusHutsell

Hi there. Thank you so much for the advice! Yes, I should be wearing a face-mask. I certainly know the dangers of using angle grinders, I've been using them for many years, and I always make sure #1 there is a proper guard and #2 that the gaurd is between the wheel and me!! However, I know that the guard alone may not always prevent or block an exploding cutting wheel. Thank you for the tip and reminder........now off to home depot for a face mask!

Dude, had the same idea, just wanted to place the speakers directly on the vesa mount. This is because I got quite small speakers, Audioengine A2+. In my case, I'd like to put the vesa plate in a 100% horizontal position, my Kensington mount (one of the exact same construction that you have presented) can do that. But I'm looking for something cheaper, I want to install another arm on the column part of this Kensington that I have so that it supports both my laptop as it does at the moment, and the speaker. Unfortunately, most of the arm specs say they can't do that (which I believe is not true on some cases). You made my day anyway.

So far my solution is working quite well. And, in both my home and work offices, I have at least (2) vesa arms on a couple of my vertical pipes. For instance, on ONE vertical pipe, I have (3) horizontal arms mounted on a single vertical pipe coming off my desk. Horizontal Arm 1 = Laptop plate that holds my laptop, with my Kensington Thunderbolt dock mounted UNDER my laptop/plat Horizontal Arm 2 = holds my GH5 camera for virtual meetings, etc. Horizontal Arm 3 = hold the new new laptop plate shown in this video, holding my Yamaha speaker...... So, 3 horizontal arms mounted to a single vertical pipe that is attached to the back of my desk. I added an extra C-clamp to help hold the vertical grip-mount on to the back of the desk since there's quite a bit of horizontal force placed on the grip-clamp now that I've added the speaker to the same vertical pipe. Fun stuff! Anyway......cheers, thank you, and good luck!

Amazing work, instead of the laptop vesa plate, cut MDF or plywood to size and screw on the vesa adapter.
@MarcusHutsell

I thought about Using Plywood, but, didn't want to have to sand, poly, etc.....since I also do woodworking I probably would have spent too much time on using plywood......and for me, MDF always sags over time. But yeah, good idea, maybe in the future I'll make some nice wood stands ;)

aaawwwww.......well. You could just NOT cut the plates and leave them full size. And for the rear U-bolt and the holes I had to drill, you (and I could have) figured out some other bolt-configuration to use the already-existing holes in the plate to grab the VESA arm to keep it from tilting forward. Even Zip-ties would work for keeping it from tilting forward.....although I'd double up on the zip ties just in case ;)

@@MarcusHutsell thank you! I managed to find a version of this here.. They're in black and meant as speaker stands. Costs a pretty penny but ended up buying them anyways just to make sure I had space for the new speakers. Thank you though!

Thanks for the video - perfect proof of concept for what I want. Looking to do something very similar for a "rolling bass station" (PC, monitors, amp, pedals, etc - all mounted to rolling utility cart) and need a way to mount the studio monitors. Honest question: Instead of cutting down the laptop plates, why didn't you just put both pairs of speakers on the laptop plate? That would have had the advantage of being able to move both speakers out to widen the separation if you're doing heavy duty audio editing and want the stereo separation - and would have freed up a little desk space?
@MarcusHutsell
Жыл бұрын
Hi there Ken. You're welcome, I'm glad the video found its way to you. So, as far as WHY I didn't put both pairs of speakers on the laptop plates, I guess the answer is two-fold: 1. My desk already accommodated one pair of speakers (I've had this desk for about 18 years, and my single pair of studio monitors has always sat ON the upper-riser section of my desk, where the new Adam T5V's currently sit in this video), and 2. I don't really trust the horizontal section of the VESA arm to hold (2) speakers.....I just didn't want to put that much weight on a cheap VESA arm. I was OK with a single speaker, but, honestly, didn't want to push it to much. Gator does make desk-mountable speaker stands, and those might work for your roaming/mobile card, but, again, as I said in this video, that model kept the speaker too far away from me, I needed some horizontal movement towards me to get the speakers in the proper position. You might try looking at the gator model, amzn.to/3tsKUHy, but, so far, my solution with these VESA arms has worked great!

🤔 true.......but I would venture to say when people are looking for speaker stands, they don't think of VESA hardware. Heck, I didn't initially think of it either, but it's also hard to find any sort of cantilevered speaker mount. So, I built one. Just thought I'd share.
